Meet Lexi Calderon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexi Calderon.

Lexi Calderon

Hi Lexi, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I began doing theater in Sarasota FL in high school with a program called The Source, where I traveled all over the state and even sometimes out of the country performing theater shows based on teen issues like drug abuse, teen pregnancy, etc. We had talk-backs with audience members after the shows and seeing the positive impact it had on the audience made me realize I could Pursue acting and help people at the same time doing what I love.

I then moved to NYC and went to an acting school there and completed my first major film project that is on Amazon Prime called The First Time Club. While in NYC I fell in love with modeling and using imagery to tell stories as well and thus began my modeling career. I walked in NYFW and Rainbow Fashion Week and have been featured in local NYC magazines.

A few years later I realized I actually had a skill for editing so I began editing my own photos and creating incredible imagery that also aided me in my storytelling journey. Now I have several acting projects under my belt and when I’m not working with other photographers, I spend my time working with my bf taking my own photos and editing them.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Dealing with depression and anxiety has been really really difficult. I only recently started therapy after years of dealing with these issues on my own. It was brought to my attention by my therapist that I may actually have ADHD and or autism which would explain a lot of my struggles. I also was the victim of heavy bullying growing up as I was the only brown skin curly curly-haired person In my area (a lot of racism), I loved anime, and I was very sensitive.

I had a very rocky home life as my mother dealt with mental illness so I was abused as a child. Something that is still very difficult for me to speak about. I then had a slew of abusive relationships as a result of the mistreatment I endured most of my life. But despite all odds I continue to chase my dreams and passions no matter what life has thrown at me. I will never EVER GIVE UP!!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
For me personally is getting close with the people who you work with. Always befriend the directors, writers, designers, etc because they will be the faces you see in the industry going forward. They will always invite you back to work on other projects or consider you for other gigs and roles. They also give great advice and mentorship as well.
