Today we’d like to introduce you to Li Liu.
Dr. Liu, author of the book “Myths and Truths About Health: An Acupuncturist’s, Dr. Liu is a native of mainland China. She came from Harbin, which is famous for snow and ice sculpture festivals. At age 8, she was given a tour of her uncle’s herb lab in a Chinese medical school. The big varieties of herbs fascinated her and she felt very excited.
Also at age 9, she observed acupuncture treatment on the scalp and that same year, she received acupuncture treatment. Brought up by her grandmother, a natural medicine believer with full knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Folk Medicine, her childhood had a strong connection with healing. The wisdom of Chinese people feeling healthy with non-invasive techniques made her decide to explore the body’s secrets.
In 1996, after graduation from medical school in China, she came to America. As a torch relay bearer as well as a team acupuncturist, she served 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. She had a private practice as an acupuncturist in Wisconsin for 5 years, and then moved to Atlanta in 2001. Although her medical background could have led her to become a medical doctor, she followed her heart to become an acupuncturist.
In order to refine her professional skills, she took postgraduate training in Clinical Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Auricular Therapy, Esoteric Acupuncture, Reiki and Qi Kung, nutrition, and detoxification programs. Her experience of colonics, kinesiology, homeopathy, color & sound therapy, and psychic healing also is a treasured resource to direct people to the most efficient healing.
Her practice combines modern technology with ancient healing arts as well as attention from the heart. This comprehensive healing system helps to heal the person holistically, mind – body – soul.
She has been a guest speaker for Emory University, Georgia State University, as well as for health insurance underwriters. She has been interviewed twice by CNN and twice by AIBTV, as-well-as Atlanta Style and Design Magazine.
Dr. Liu is a licensed acupuncturist specializing in hormonal issues, weight, stress & anxiety, fertility, men’s health issues, and anti-aging. She has a published book titled “Myths and Truths About Health. She has an advanced certification in Ulan Nutritional Systems for Nutrition Response Testing and has a special detoxification program for the body and brain – True Cellular Detoxification.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been challenging to educate people that Traditional Chinese Medicine is to be accepted in the global scheme of healthcare. Educating people to change their lifestyles and diet in order to optimize their health and well-being. My background is in medical not business, so learning to run a successful business and how to market that business was a challenge to me at first. I want to continue to inspire and empower people to be on their own team to get well and it is an on-going effort. After all, patients are runners, and we are their health coach and we need to work as a team
