Today we’d like to introduce you to Lib Aubuchon.
Lib, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began my career as a teacher. Although it’s taken a few different forms, I think that’s still what I am at heart.
As a stay-at-home mom, I began a blog called Really Real Atlanta Housewife. It led to all sorts of connections and eventually, a social media consulting business called Southern Fried Social. Earlier this year, I decided to expand the focus of my business to brand strategy.
Now I help small businesses and entrepreneurs create a consistent and meaningful narrative in their marketing efforts. I help them define the heart of their company, what sets them apart and how to tell the story clearly across the right platforms.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Haha! The sound you hear is me laughing. Loudly.
Starting a business is a lot like having a baby: you really can’t wait till you’re fully ready or you’ll never do it. I’m constantly learning from setbacks and trying to get ahead of what’s coming. And just like everyone else in the sandwich generation, I’m running a business while tending to teenagers and aging parents.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I’m most proud of my ability to help people see what differentiates their business, product, or service.
It used to be enough to lead with a description of what you offer and then amplify that message everywhere. But with so much noise everywhere, it’s much harder to stand out now. Thousands of people probably offer the same thing you do. So how do you connect? By getting down deep into your story, figuring out the problem your business solves, and creating a brand story that addresses exactly why someone should choose you.
