Meet Lil Vo of Voveli in Decatur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lil Vo.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I been loving music since I was a lil kid; my dad used to always listening to 2pac, bone thugs, playa fly, skinny pimp, crime boss, etc. I followed his footsteps and started listening as well. I started rapping when I was like ten years old. My big cousins use to play beats off fruityloops I use to hear the beats and freestyle on it. One day he had helped me write a song but I never got to record it. I got a brother name bolo me and he uses to always write songs so we went to a lil studio up the street from where we stay & recorded our first song from that day forward, I know I was gonna be a rapper. We started a group called scholar kids but ever since then we been going crazy.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s straight but you got yo downfalls that come with it. I wouldn’t say I grew up real rough cause I always had a roof over my head but I did come from the struggle. Watching my grandma late on the bills watching yo patnas get killed etc. It’s gonna always struggles if you wanna be successful no matter what you are doing. You just gotta know how to take what comes with it, if not it’s gonna break you every time. Somedays, you probably not even gonna feel like rapping but you gonna have to if you are trying to rap and it don’t come overnight idc who you know. You most definitely gotta grind. Can’t be worrying about what people think about your art or music that’s another way you can get thrown off yo pivot listening to other people’s opinions and not going with your first thought. Its really all a mind thang you gotta be built for it.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m proud of how far I came if you go back and look at my old videos you’ll see how far I came. I remember walking around so broke but I never asked nobody for no money. I was the type person who be hungry and you can ask me do I want some food I’ll still say No. Lmao, I just never wanted a handout from nobody at all. I’m different from others cause I just wanna see my folks win. I want all my patnas rich & UP. I want all my people richer than me. Cause if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be where I’m at right now.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I wouldn’t say I had mentors but I do got hell of people that support me. But one person who I know for a fact who helped me was my brother Steve he passed away a year back he was my biggest supporter and fan I could have a song that sucks but I know for a fact lil Steve gonna like it. So he was a big loss for me cause I know I’ll never have another person support that strong like he did.other then that my brothers support me 2F gang go look that up.
