Today, we’d like to introduce you to Lilly Hart.
Hi Lilly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I graduated from Parkview High School in 2021. During my Junior year of high school, I was about to have the busiest spring of my life with AP classes, high school golf, and travel basketball, and then COVID hit. With everything being canceled, I was able to make time for my music. I had been writing music my whole life but now had time to focus on it.
I then started the whole process of becoming an independent artist. I learned a lot in a couple of years. I then moved to Birmingham, Alabama, to play college basketball, which surprisingly helped my music. During my time at BSC, I met the local independent radio head, and he played my music on the radio. He then helped me sign a record deal with an independent label called Mick Music. I re-released my single called “Drive Slow,” which took off at the beginning of 2023. This past summer, I re-released my debut EP called “Overrated; Complicated,” and then I released a single called “Summertime Feels” in August 2023.
After all these releases, I moved to Nashville to attend MTSU to major in Commercial Songwriting. Since then, I have been breaking into the Nashville scene and performing as much as possible. I have also been back and forth between Nashville, Atlanta, and Birmingham. In each of the states, I have been writing, performing, and recording. I am currently performing as much as I ever have and I hope to release something very soon.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Everyone in the music industry has always told me your career will experience ups and downs. I definitely believe this is true, as I have experienced many highs and many lows so far. In the first part of my career, figuring out how to create professional recordings for my songs was challenging. It took a lot of research to figure out what studio I should go to, who I should get to mix my songs with, and whether I should record my instrumentals in my bedroom. Once I figured out how to record my music, I then had to figure out how to release my music.
This took a lot of research to find the right music distributor. Once I was on a high from releasing my first song, I realized I needed a marketing plan for my next song. I then worked with a small company in ATL to help me market the first version of my EP. After they helped me get some traction, I was able to show my music to the radio, and they played it, which was a very big high. Even though the lows are unsettling, the highs make this career worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an artist originally from Atlanta, currently residing in Nashville. The genre of music I make is a mix of alternative, indie, and singer/songwriter. I’d like to say that the music I make is a new sound, and I write and produce all of my songs.
What makes me different is that I don’t want to be like other artists. Instead of wanting and sound like Billie Eilish, I want to create something brand new. I believe the way to do that is to incorporate many styles and genres into my writing.
