Meet Abigail Lindsey of Liquid Sky Events in West End

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abigail Lindsey.

Abigail, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in New Jersey where I found flow arts and fire performance at a dark time in my life. I truly fell in love with the art form six years ago and have dedicated all of my time to training and growing as an artist. I grew up with a theater background, I always knew I wanted to be on stages and performing for others.

There is just something so special about making others smile about your art. I started my journey as a performer taking smaller-scale music festival gigs and on-stage performances with large name music artists. As time passed, I knew I had to get out of my small town and move to a city of opportunity. For me, that was Atlanta. After taking a small break from performing and refocusing on instructing at retreats, I was found by Liquid Sky!

Approximately a year ago, I was invited to come check out the lovely studio space and meet some of the performers and managers. It was love at first sight, and thats really where my story begins! Thanks to my biggest supporters and friends in the company I have come really far from where I was in my small-town New Jersey. I am forever grateful for the people who have stuck with me through it all!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Over the past six years, I have struggled greatly! But nothing worthwhile comes easy. It was hard to find work as an artist when I first began, and at times I wanted to give up. It was my love for my art and its ability to help me cope with anxiety and depression that drove me to keep going. I chose to refocus on becoming a better artist rather than becoming a performer. When I chose to put the art I wanted to create first, that’s when things started falling into place and I was able to be recognized by a community of circus performers! Being a part of Liquid Sky has made my journey much smoother. I have learned so much about myself and my craft thanks to the people I get to work with.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Liquid Sky Events story. Tell us more about the business.
I work for Liquid Sky Events. I personally specialize in fire, juggling, stilt walking, character performance, as well as event management. Marilyn Chen is the owner of Liquid Sky and an incredibly talented aerialist who started this as an all-female run Specialty Event Company. I am so proud every day to be surrounded by hard-working, loyal, and intriguing women (and men) who put their all into everything that they do. It’s hard to not be constantly inspired surrounded by the people I get to work with. We currently work all over the southeast and the east coast bringing high-quality circus-style performances to corporate events, festivals, and private shows!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I wouldn’t consider myself the luckiest person and I have had to work very hard to get where I am. But I was totally in the right place at the right time a year ago when Liquid Sky found me teaching and performing at a little fire performance retreat in Northern Georgia (FLAME Festival). At times, I feel truly lucky, but all luck is backed by hard work and dedication. I hope no one ever gives up on their goals and continues to push through, even when it feels like luck is against you!
