Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa D. Adams.
Lisa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
At a young age, I learned what it meant to be a strong woman. I was raised by my mom; a hard working woman that never allowed circumstances to dictate the outcome of life. From here, I learned how to be strong, self-sufficient, and a fighter for those things I desire.
What she could not teach me was how to love myself. As a result, my self-esteem was low and I did not know my value. On the outside looking in, you would have thought I had it all together but you didn’t know that I was easily upset and struggling with depression. I found myself feeling alone even in the midst of a crowded room. There was even a period of time when my desire to live was nonexistent.
God has a sense of humor. He knows how to use your shame and pain so that he can be glorified. I became intentional about turning my life and story around. I told myself depression no longer lives here. I began to embrace and celebrate the fact I had been given another chance with life after surviving cancer.
As my mind changed, so did my life. I published my first book “Just Who I Am” in July 2015; a book written to help tween and teen girls overcome the struggles with the need of validation and lack of self-esteem. Since then two additional books have been published. I then organized The Lisa Adams Group an organization created to help at-risk youth with challenges such as self-esteem, relationships, school, bullying, home life, and their mindset. My most recent victory is “Help Me Help My Son” a movie focusing on the struggles of parenting young African American men. The cast consisted of 7 young men, parents, community leaders, and teachers discussing their fears, concerns, and the need for support.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My journey has not been smooth but it has been worth my endurance. Along the way, I had to find my niche and my circle of influence. Most importantly, I had to learn to lean and depend on God for direction, finances, and connections. His plan is so much better than I can ever imagine.
Please tell us about The Lisa Adams Group.
My love for youth is undeniable and is displayed through my writings. I am an Award-Winning Author of “Londyn and the Angel Called Uncle Johnny”. “Just Who I Am” and “The Pitbull of Puppy Love”. I am the Producer and Director of “Help Me Help My Son” movie documentary which is one of my most mind-blowing accomplishments.
How can I get to the root of the problem if I never acknowledge there is a problem? I am known for hosting a yearly event called “The Voice of Our Children”. This is normally a breakfast and our speakers range from ages 9 to 21. They are given a platform without a particular topic and encouraged to speak from the heart. This allows me to learn their areas of concern, the impact it has on their lives and the lives of their peers.
I hold an Associate of Applied Science in Business Management and a Bachelor of Art in Human Services. I am a Self-Love and Motivational Coach. I specialize in transparency, clearing the vision and mind of negative thoughts so that my clients can recognize their value. This is done via coaching sessions and participating in events that push beyond the normal areas of comfort.
My motto is: sowing seeds watching the harvest. If I can help somebody then my living will not be in vain.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I am not a believer in luck but I am a believer in God’s favor. Things may not occur as planned but will manifest at the right time if I keep believing and working. As an entrepreneur, I learned patience. God’s favor opens doors that seem impossible. His favor also closes doors for my protection.
