Meet Liz Stubbs of Liz Stubbs Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Stubbs.

Liz, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always been a storyteller. As a wee one, I remember writing my own stories, in crayon of course, and illustrating them. That was my happy place, drawing. But when I held my first camera, a Polaroid Land Camera, that was my YES. I devoted myself to documenting the turtles in the backyard just as fervently as I did to making family portraits from my knee-high perspective.

After college, I wrote and edited for a newspaper chain, then moved on to documentary filmmaking and directing for TV and corporate video. I have the honor in my work of interviewing and capturing people’s stories, their dreams, fears, and challenges and bringing to light the amazing spunk and spirit we all have, but we might have lost touch with until we find ourselves in situations that call for our courage.

My fascination for people’s stories keeps me curious and excited, and that’s what brings me full circle to creating my portrait studio and business, Liz Stubbs Photography in Kirkwood/Edgewood. I began creating documentary-style portrait series for artists, showcasing them in their creative element. But with my portraits, I celebrate the artist in us all. I adore creating sessions for people where we capture portraits of their inner light.

The radiance that lights us up from inside. Whether your series is to create a personal branding portfolio or a legacy collection that includes more eclectic and lifestyle images, we focus on an experience that brings out your inner light.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have always been clear on my WHY behind my passion for portraits. One of the biggest challenges with my focus in portraiture is also THE biggest reward. As we first talk about creating our portrait session, I often hear my clients say they are not comfortable seeing themselves in photographs, and they would prefer not being in front of the lens. I can identify with that as well.

But when we see that glow, that vitality within us in our portraits, we see ourselves in a different way. It’s empowering. It’s healing. After our sessions, when clients see their radiance, they share with me that the experience was easy and fun and that these portraits are the ones they love. I am beyond happy when I hear that shift in the way people see themselves.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Liz Stubbs Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I have created my own niche in portraiture, Inner Light Portraits, born from the biggest obstacle I experienced with people feeling that somehow they do not make good photographs. I photograph your inner light. With each client we design a custom shoot and experience for you starting from our consultation. I share wardrobe/styling recommendations, we map out the best location (whether in-studio or on-site) to tell your visual story, and then I map our portrait sequence to give you maximum variety.

My sessions are fully directed and guided to optimize & enhance your experience and your outcome. By the time you are in front of the lens, we have created a collaboration that gives you the freedom & ease to radiate. Celebrating everyone’s inner light is what I am most proud of and honored to do in my photography. I offer portrait packages for Contemporary Personal Branding, in-studio portraits that empower your non-verbal brand, perfect for your professional & marketing use.

And I offer Inner Light Portrait packages, which focus on a more extensive visual storytelling, highlighting your business, your creativity, your family, really taking my cue from what is most important to you. These custom series create legacy images for both marketing and heirloom treasures. During our consultation, we design a package that is tailored specifically to you.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m not certain what my relationship is with “luck.” What I am certain of is that when you find the passion that you wake up in the morning smiling & energized to create, when you know in your bones WHY this is what you most want to do with your life, and when you orient yourself to building towards that dream every day, even if just a tiptoe, then I believe and I know the world conspires to help you realize that flow.
