Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Martin
Lori, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Straight out of medical residency (almost 15 years ago) I knew I did not want to practice traditional, hospital based medicine. I became interested in functional medicine, joining a practice specializing in aesthetics, weight loss, and hormone replacement. By using a functional medicine model, we were able to identify and correct the source for many common concerns and diseases, addressing lifestyle, supplements, and custom compounded medications over traditional prescriptions. As I immersed myself in my new specialty, I was also introduced to regenerative medicine as technology advanced. We began using platelet rich plasma, growth factors, and stem cells to heal patient’s acute and chronic injuries, without surgery or medication needed. Throughout this time, I continued to train in the ever-changing world of non-surgical aesthetics, continuously evolving my techniques and skills. I discovered my passion for the creativity and art behind facial balancing and sculpting the aging face gently, subtly and naturally into a more youthful version of the patient’s true self. I became an contractor and consultant for medical spas and wellness centers all around Atlanta, providing services as needed to accommodate each practice’s needs. This exposure and experience gave me the inspiration to launch Longevity Medical Consulting and Marketing, a company designed to fulfill a much needed niche for not just medical oversight, but training, guidance, collaboration for like-minded providers of various levels of training, experience, and practice size. As my client base grew, I worked with an app developer to create a one of a kind app, designed to give clients a unique and personalized experience from the start. Within my app, clients complete onboarding, exchange secure documents, E-sign forms, access protocols and training materials. Members also have access to group chats with other members to collaborate, organize group purchasing, share techniques and tips, troubleshoot issues, and learn from one another under my guidance and supervision. I also keep a med spa specialty law firm, Lengea Law, on retainer to ensure my clients have access to the most compliant policies and protocols. The next phase of the app will be to launch a virtual training center to ensure all clients are up to date with techniques, products, and protocols. I currently spend dozens of hours each month training practitioners on laser techniques and safety through Aesthetic Solutions in Marietta. I love the opportunity to share my expertise and experiences with newbies and advance practitioners alike, and look forward to expanding my training courses over the next year. Finally, five years ago, I had the privilege of partnering with my husband, Dr. Daniel Martin, to open our own med spa, Longevity Wellness and Med Spa in Towne Lake, Woodstock. We initially launched the spa in his chiropractic clinic in Marietta, Georgia, where he had practiced for nearly 30 years. When we purchased a home in Eagle Watch Golf Club, we knew we wanted to expand into our new community of Towne Lake. In July of 2023, we found the perfect spot, nestled among other offices in the heart of Towne Lake. It was a beautiful experience, turning the boring beige walls into the relaxing, luxurious retreat we wanted to provide for our guests. Now over a year later, we continue to grow, expanding our team to include one of my favorite nurse injectors, Claire, and a fantastic receptionist and aesthetician, Rachel. Owning a business is always going to have it’s stressors, but we are truly grateful for the opportunity to bring our dream to fruition and share it with our community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There are always challenges in business. The aesthetic industry is pretty resilient but faces sometimes unpredictable ebs and flows. Figuring out how to maintain the overhead costs during slower seasons has been challenging. We first launched Longevity Wellness and Med Spa in November of 2019, only to have the COVID pandemic hit a few months later. Most business take 1-2 years in this arena to become profitable, so the pandemic slowed our progress considerably. Then, when we moved our med spa to Towne Lake last July, I did not quite anticipate how much it would be like starting over. While many clients followed us, we found that it took some time to adapt to our new community’s needs and goals, and make a name for our self in the neighborhood.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Longevity Wellness and Med Spa, Longevity Medical Consulting and Marketing?
Longevity Wellness and Med Spa is the perfect culmination of my past experiences in functional medicine, regenerative medicine and aesthetics. I have coined the term “Regenerative Aesthetics” for what I offer. While we do have traditional botox and fillers, we tend towards a more natural approach to facial sculpting and want our patients to feel like a more youthful version of themselves, never over-done. We also use a variety of devices, from microneedling to lasers and Morpheus 8 radiofrequency microneedling. Everything we do is about stimulating your skin to regenerate, repair damage, and reduce the signs of aging. We also focus on the inside – helping patients balance hormones, lose weight, and generally feel their best.
My favorite treatment to perform is lip filler. I use a wonderful hyaluronic acid to replace the lost volume in lips, and my signature techniques sculpt the perfect lip shape, customized the the patient’s existing shape, facial features, and desired volume – so they always love the end result. I absolutely love to watch the patient’s first glimpse of their transformed pucker, some even become tearful with joy at what they never though they could have.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Over the years, I have found my favorite mentors through trainings or educational events. It is a good opportunity to learn a new technique or continue to evolve your knowledge, and working hands on with a trainer opens the door for follow up questions and future connections. Now I find myself in the position of mentor, and will agree that many of my best clients are those I meet during trainings that I conduct – it gives me the opportunity to see the potential the client has. And I will also say, though I am a mentor for many, I continue to learn from my own mentors and colleagues. That’s one thing I love about the aesthetics industry, there is always something new and fun to master.
