Meet Lorin Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorin Hill.

Lorin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I first started doing makeup my freshman year at Spelman College. Starting my business while I was in school was pretty cool. I definitely wasn’t as focused in the beginning but after graduating, I decided to take it more seriously. Since I’ve graduated, I have constantly been looking for new ways to evolve my brand. I’m currently working on becoming a Master Cosmetologist so I am very excited for what is to come.

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I haven’t gotten to the point where I can operate my business at 100% because of my time in college and now going to school 30 hours a week. One of my biggest struggles has always been having enough time for my clients and making sure I have availability when I am needed.

It was also a struggle trying to graduate from Spelman and preparing to switch over to being a full-time makeup artist. The final semesters at any college can be difficult but completing a thesis and staying on top of my clientele was not easy but I did it! I had to make sure I handled my school business while also making sure I was giving my passion adequate attention.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Lo on the Beat is a hair and makeup service that specializes in accentuating what you have. I like to make my clients feel just as good on the outside as they do on the inside. I specialize in soft beats and hair extensions. I am most known for providing natural glam ideal for photoshoots and events but I also love to play in color. As a company, I am most proud of the evolution of my talent from when I fist started as well as my ability to give a client what they ask for. Part of what makes my client’s experience so unique is that I get to know them and establish a friendship which allows me to meet all of my clients’ needs.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The beauty industry is constantly evolving as trends come and go. One thing that will never go out of style is looking good so I expect that as people become more comfortable leaving the house again, they will keep in touch with their stylists. It’s already a multi-billion dollar industry that I only see expanding from here.
