Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorne and Malinda McCaslin.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The Baking Grounds Bakery Café, home of “I Do Cake” is a real, old fashioned specialty cake boutique which has been creating cakes for ALL occasions for over 50 years. A family tradition since 1958, we want to be your first choice for all things Bakery.
My father had a large full-line bakery in the north for over forty-five years. It was with him we got our start. From there we have specialized in baking and decorating cakes for over 25 years, and developed our own full-line bakery for several years.
This is truly a family business, as we have my wife and I as owners, Tiffany our oldest is a great baker, our daughter Caley who is an expert cake decorator, Lexi our 3rd daughter, is the full time manger and lead wedding cake decorator. Summer, our youngest daughter helps assists with Front of House/ Storefront management. Angel Rose, Chloe Autumn, Ciarra Avery, Aubrey Love, Addie Jean, and Nova Lynn are our beautiful granddaughters, and come around to “sample” the goodies! As you can see, we are blessed!
Has it been a smooth road?
Finding the perfect location was definitely our biggest hurdle. We have so many faithful customers who have taken this journey with us, and we are so thankful that we have finally found our ultimate location!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Baking Grounds Bakery Cafe – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are first and foremost a full line Bakery. Featuring custom cakes, cookies, pies, cupcakes, pastries, brownies and so much more. We also offer what we believe is some of the best breakfast and lunch menu’s around.
We are very proud of our social media reviews. On Trip Adviser we are ranked #3 of over 180 food establishments in Buford! On places like wedding wire, Facebook, The Know, we have almost a 100% 5 star rating!
We believe in 100% customer satisfaction, and constantly strive to improve on this. We serve our sandwiches on made from scratch breads, unique and delicious, and not to be equaled anywhere.
Being able to offer fresh, scratch made bakery items, with a wonderful breakfast & lunch experience, fresh ground and brewed coffee creations set us apart from all others. Our wonderful customers are able to have a great meal, served quickly, and then take home some fantastic baked good as well.
We have the moistest wedding cakes and freshest products to be found. Our cake is baked fresh and not frozen for months on end. We are certain that if you try our cakes, you will buy them. Brides & Grooms (or anyone!) should not sacrifice on the taste of the cake. Our cakes are both beautiful and delicious; and very competitively priced!

We LOVE Buford and the surrounding area! Such a tight knit community, that really support the local businesses.
There really is nothing about Buford we don’t like. It’s such a pleasure to be able to say that!
