Meet Louise Nunga of African Mobile Braiders in Metro Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Louise Nunga.

Louise, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started mobile braiders as a side gig to put me through college, because I was tired of working in the braiding shops where the clients weren’t guaranteed. And so I came up with mobile braiders and gradually I saw that there was an actual need for my services. But it still was just something I did on the side to help me as I was pursuing my pharmacist degree. Long story short, I graduated with a bachelor in Biology, failed my PCAT exams (thank God) and focused all my energy in growing my business. And today we are a growing team of 4 hair stylist who are awesome at what they do. We love our job, we meet interesting people every day and because we are in the comfort of their homes where they get that personal one on one attention, we share an awesome experience. Another interesting reason why we love being mobile, is we grow with our loyal clients. We have seen some clients that were either single, wanting a baby, looking for a job, or starting a business…all accomplish their goals and dreams and it’s a beautiful bond. Some clients have become close friends, business partners, the list goes on. We provide an experience where you are comfortable or your kids can get their hair done in their comfort zone.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think any business has a smooth road. It’s like being a mother (which I am of 2 girls), some days are stressful but its “your” stress, if you know what I mean. It’s your baby and you love it even when it’s tough. It’s still tough some days but it’s my baby so when I have days when a have an issue with one of our stylist or client, its ok cause I’m equipped to handle it. The toughest part is finding a reliable stylist, because our professional expectations are very high than what normal braiders are used to at the shop. So, that was my number one issue, but luckily all I had to do was look around me and I found awesome braiders in my circle. Sometimes what you are looking for is right in front of you. So I’m connected to most of our braiders personally, we are all mothers and Christians with integrity so I don’t have to worry about their loyalty and professionalism or how they deal with kids because we are all mothers.
