Meet Hailei Beckwith of LoveLit Candles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hailei Beckwith.

Hailei, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my business at the age of 13. I come from a family of Entrepreneurs and after seeing my parents manage their own businesses, I wanted to do the same. After talking with my Mom, she agreed to help with launch my business. I love candles; however, with numerous allergies, I have to watch what I eat as well as things that I’m around. Therefore, candles that includes beeswax are OFF limit. We did a lot of research and after much thought, we came up with soy candles and I now use my own proprietary blend of soy/coconut wax for all my candles. Over the last two years, I have expanded by the brand to include car/room/linen sprays, home/aroma burning oils and candle melts. I use part of my proceeds to give my to the community as well. I was able to feed families for Thanksgiving and provided gifts for kids at Christmas.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not always been a smooth road! My biggest struggle was balancing being a teenager, school, extracurricular activities and building my business brand. Another struggle was making sure that the product I was producing was not good, but GREAT. I would often second guess myself even though people would always tell me how much they loved my products.

We’d love to hear more about your business. 
I make soy/coconut blended candles, candle melts, car/room/lines sprays and home/aroma burning oils. I utilize premium fragrances and some of the scents that I make are my own custom blended scents. I am most proud of being able to make great products that my consumers enjoy and hearing the awesome reviews I receive from those who have purchased my products. I am also proud that I am able to use some of my profits to give back to the community and I hope to inspire and motive other young people to start their own business. In addition to LoveLit Candles Co., I also started my own vegan lipgloss business last year; Poised and Polished Lipgloss by Hailei Micah.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the city of Atlanta and I feel like it is a place of great opportunities for young Entrepreneurs. I plan to attend Spelman College in Atlanta upon graduating from High School. I don’t have any dislikes, but if I had to give a dislike; based off of my Mom and when we travel to Atlanta, it would be the traffic.
