Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Moore.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashley. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My love for photography began when I was 13. My friend had a really nice camera that her family got her one Christmas, and I was super excited to try it out for her. Although I began by modeling, one day she allowed me to use her camera to take photos of her. I fell in love with taking photos, and that was how it all began! We bought that camera off of my friend and I began taking pictures of my friends, my dance shoes, the flowers in my backyard, my cousins, my dogs. Basically anything I could get to stay in front of my camera!
I didn’t officially start my business until two years later, hence the name “Lucky 15 Photography.” At that point, I had a one year old little sister, and she became my muse. My mom was actually the one that convinced me to start a Facebook page for my photography. I had no idea that my business would grow to be as large as it is today! My photo sessions began as a $20 session that only my neighbors and family friends booked. But soon, I had people I didn’t know asking me for photos! I am so proud of where my business is today, as I love what I do!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was definitely a smooth road for the most part. I have had some difficult clients that want very specific shots, and become upset when those don’t turn out the way that they saw on Pinterest. I’ve also had clients cancel on sessions the day-off when I had already arrived at the selected location, which is why I added a deposit fee! However, that is only the rotten few! My clients are great and I love working with them. I have a lot of regulars that I love to see grow throughout the years. Every photo session leaves my heart with joy, as I am so happy that my clients choose me to capture their memories.
As for growing my business, it was a surprise as to how fast it grew because it only started as me posting a few photos of my little sister, and then blew up! I have learned from many of my past sessions, and have added new presets, equipment, a studio backdrop and lights, and a new camera too!
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a passionate photographer specializing in everything from senior photos to wedding photography to events to family sessions to lifestyle photos for blog posts! I have pretty much done everything, including construction site photos for the promotion of a product! I have learned to be flexible with requests, as well as work around a busy college and work schedule!
I am most proud of the first wedding that I ever did! The couple, Christina and Jonathan Stephens, were a dream to work with, and I am so thankful that they were my first wedding. I kept reminding them that it was my first, and they made it so easy for me to capture their big day. I was 15 years old, just starting this business, and they trusted ME to capture one of the most important days of their lives. I didn’t even give them a price because I had no idea what I was doing! The pictures turned out amazing, and I was so proud of myself for conquering the 12 hour day filled with joy!
I feel that what sets me apart from others is that I do very minimal editing. I don’t believe in photoshop, as I want my clients to look as much like themselves as possible. Along with that, I offer affordable photo sessions that allow my clients to come back for more photos throughout the year!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I believe that success in a photo business is all about the process. For me to feel successful in my sessions, taking the photos must be fun and easy for the clients. I want my clients to feel at ease in front of the camera, as I know it I often hard for people to feel comfortable. When it comes to the editing process, I want my photos to be as bright and airy as possible. I love that rustic tone with the combination of bright exposure! Although the process is very important to me, I feel the most successful when I hear back from my clients about how much they love the photos! Client happiness is my top priority!
