Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucky Smith.
Hi Lucky, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started as an investor in my little cousin’s rap career. Not really getting any major results, I reached out to my uncle Tommy over at Laface records. He gave me a lot of directions. From there, I ended up meeting the marketing manager for No Limit Records who gave me my 1st job doing promotions. From that point on, it was on. I have worked with almost every major label and indie from 93-2015. During my career, I have done almost every aspect in the business. Loving the marketing side, I have been instrumental in the start of various media companies before partnering with Tyrone Davis and starting our own with Twenty4Seven Magazine. I then ventured into doing conferences by doing the DJs United Conference and the Evolution Entertainment Conference. Till this day, I still do a lot of artist promotions, marketing and consulting. I also run an online radio station DJs United Radio and program director at The Plug Network Online.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being ordinally from Indianapolis, it was hard making a name in the industry cause nothing major in entertainment happens there. So, I helped build the scene and made it a spot for people to want to come and get money. Then getting the right connections was also an obstacle. But doing good business made them end up looking and finding me.
We’ve been impressed with Jus Mi Luck Promotions & Marketing, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Jus Mi Luck is a full-service marketing firm that markets and promotes anything from entertainment to clothing to products all the way to events. We have a major stronghold on the Midwest and as of recent started building one throughout the south region. The media company, DJs Servicing company and consulting company all falls under this umbrella. We specialize in creating a campaign that people will be drawn to and help elevate our client’s success. Unlike other companies, we do not have cookie-cutter campaigns. We work every client’s strong point of their brand. The fact that we have been in business over 25+ years says everything. Plus, we have very reasonable rates and can work with any budget.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My success first started with the team members who worked with me to help build my brand in my local market 1st. Like Smooth, Jay, Billy Badd, Chris Kelly (RIP), Melvin McClain, Casper, Jeff, Sir James, Tyrone Davis, all my DJs, retail locations and clubs. Secondly, I have to thank my uncle Tommy Henderson of Laface for all his early advice and guidance. Then my mentors in promotions, Geno Shelton, Joe “Pointman” Coleman (RIP), Judy Jones and Dorian “Lil D’ Washington for lacing me and embracing me in my journey. Then the best supporting system you can have my mother.
