Meet Lucus Canty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucus Canty.

Lucus, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I really didn’t think I would be where I am today. Not saying I’m like a big star or anything, but I didn’t think I’d ever build up the courage to start rapping. My brother always told me that I needed to start rapping with him, but I’d always make an excuse. I was scared that I wouldn’t make the music that people wanted to hear even though I knew that I could rap. Last summer, my friends kept telling me I need to release something so I finally decided to try it out and I released my first song around July 2019. The feedback I got was great and it made me want to release more. I’ve been gaining more confidence as the time passes and I’m glad I actually decided to step out of my comfort zone with this.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road hasn’t been smooth. It definitely has been some hard days when I wanted to give up. I’m always hard on myself because I feel like I could be doing more! I feel like I always have something going on on the side. I’m working on just giving my music everything. I’m always planning, it’s time to start executing.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I’m a rapper. I’m most proud of the fact that I haven’t given up yet despite all the times I’ve wanted to. It seems like every time I think I’m done, something tells me to keep going. One thing that sets me apart is that I don’t sound like anyone else. That’s one thing I’ve been hearing since day one. I try to keep originality at all times.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I stayed to myself, I moved from Virginia to Georgia in the 5th grade. We didn’t have much so I didn’t have too many friends growing up. Looking back I would’ve never thought I’d be where I am today. And if you tried to tell me I’d be here I wouldn’t believe you. Of course I still struggle, but my family definitely came a long way. God is so good, it wasn’t luck at all. A lot of the stuff I go through, I feel like it happens for a reason. When bad things happen, I just tell myself God has something good coming. I just try to stay positive through everything so I don’t have to rely on luck. Everything always works itself out, just can’t stress or panic.
