Meet Luis Martinez of Sincerelyluis Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis Martinez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I actually started photography with an iPod Touch back in March of 2012. I pretty much shot anything I came across that I found interesting. It wasn’t until I was gifted my first DSLR camera in January 2017, that started my whole portrait journey and land me where I’m at today.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I feel like it has been smooth back when I shot with my iPod Touch. That is until I was gifted my first DSLR where things started to get more serious. It was difficult for me at the time because I’m an extremely shy person and something I’ve yet to overcome, but after doing several shoots and meeting other creatives like me, I feel like I’ve opened myself up a lot more. I definitely feel a lot more confident now when it comes to introducing myself and getting to know anyone as well.

That’s only my personal side, on the other hand, I’ve also had to deal with the hardest time of my life when my family began to go separate ways. We were all living in a home of seven and during my High School years it came down to only three. All of us are now separated and living in a different state, but it’s never been easy for me since I am the youngest in the family. I feel like everyone had left at an early stage of my life where I would’ve wanted them to be, but it just wasn’t possible. I knew we all had to move on eventually, so I just had to get used to it and look forward to my next journey in life.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sincerelyluis Photography – what should we know?
My main thing is photography and always will be. I’ve been known for giving out great advice when it comes to anything creative wise. Although, I often don’t get asked I’m always open to answer any questions any creative might have for me. My main goal after every shoot is for both the model and me, to learn something new from one another. It’s definitely a beautiful thing to get to know more of the person you meet, like what inspires them and where they started to become creative. When it comes down to shooting, I always try to find something you usually don’t see anywhere else, a different perspective. Making my images unique is something I always push for, but I feel like that’s with every photo I take. I believe everyone has their own way of looking at things. I don’t believe you can “completely” copy an image you might find on the internet or anywhere else. It’s almost impossible to catch every little detail of that image you found, yours will always be different in a certain way.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
My proudest moment would definitely be chosen for a free trip to New York City back in January 2018. A group of creators was giving back after winning a contest from The Hub aka H Collective. They wanted every creative around the U.S. to send them a message and say why they deserve to go New York. I honestly had no idea I would’ve even come close to being considered for the trip, but after writing a long letter the creative hosts actually contacted me and told me that I’ve won! They read my letter and were inspired by what I said, as well as the content that I was creating. It was truly a life-changing phone call and one I will never forget. Since then, I knew that the creative life was destined for me and something I’ll never give up.
