Today we’d like to introduce you to Lury Fequiere.
Lury, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Where do I begin… As a kid, I grew up fond of the mechanical to technological aspect of music videos and the ideas artist captured on a 4:4 aspect ratio (which I didn’t really know about till I got older, but that’s not the point). Growing up, me and my brother got our first camera and started creating dance videos & taking pictures for ourselves. After a while, the time we spent on creating started to dim as we started to grow older, spend more time with the people we preferred too surrounded ourselves with. Then, around the time I turned 18 someone had asked me if I still danced and created. The person went on saying that they enjoyed our creations & thought that I had talent. He then proceeded to tell me something that I still sort of Quote to this day, “Don’t give up on what you started or forget where you came from. Live each day working to be someone better than the person you were yesterday or the days before than”.
I took the opportunity to think about in what way can I better myself or my craft. So, I started shooting the people whose company I enjoyed. I wanted to capture the essence of being in a space of joy and comfort that my friends gave me, then I proceeded on to do more by figuring out a way to display the inner beauty that comes from them individually. From there, I grew a more creative mindset to my craft & the idea of detail, color, environment, fashion that speaks. Even started working with artists, entrepreneurs, and many others.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s never easy. My biggest issue was I didn’t grow up in the most supportive household. My parents had their own sort of ideals for me. They were more driven to the idea of a future that they felt made sense to them, and was more destined for me. I didn’t let it stop me though. I kept looking forward to doing what I enjoyed, while also trying to display why I enjoyed it. As student as well, money was another problem for me when I started up photography. Their were times I didn’t necessarily have the equipment to edit the photos that I took or even have a way to upload them on to a computer. I improvised and went around finding the resources I needed too, whether that meant going to the library, using my cousins laptop or asking a friend to send the photos to my phone. I’ve had struggles with creators block. I would submerge myself into music, and clear my mind according to however long I needed too. All in all, My struggles helped me become the man I am today.
Luvinci – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Main Focus behind my photography is to let those of low income still have a platform or an opportunity to display themselves, their craft, their Business (clothes, merchandise, & etc.) in a professional manner. My Prices for shooting are fair and feasible for all. I enjoy what I do and love to see others enjoy it too. I mostly specialize in portrait photography, which focuses on capturing the personality of a person or a group of people by utilizing effective lighting, Poses, and Backgrounds of different things.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success in many different ways. I believe that success is what you etch in the future to come. People up and find success, but only worked to create it in the now. Success is what you build while in the present, but will also last on even in the futures to come. So in my photography, it can be what I pass on to the generation to come or maybe my children. If not my children then, I’d leave behind a legacy in which my photos would be remembered in the minds of others around the world.
