Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyndsay and Todd Morris.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lyndsay and Todd. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Pickle Patch started in 1995 on the Marietta Square as a book store for kids by a local couple. Shortly after, Pickle Patch Book Fairs was born using an old transit bus and serviced metro Atlanta counties looking for book fair alternatives.
Shortly after I moved to Cobb County from Maryland in 2005, I began working book fairs for the original owner. After a few weeks, I thought this would be a great alternative to teaching, a career I was considering. In 2007, Todd & I bought the business and we’ve been servicing metro Atlanta ever since.
Has it been a smooth road?
We’ve had struggles like most businesses. We had to build our client base, when we purchased Pickle Patch there was one book fair on the calendar for the school year. We were able to overcome this during the first couple of years through referrals which we rely on heavily. Having no idea the first couple of years of owning this business would fall during the most recent economic downfall, thankfully parents still felt it important to buy their children books during the recession in 2008 and we weathered that hard economic time.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a turn-key, mobile book fair fundraiser. We bring the bus to preschools and elementary schools and facilitate the book fair inside the bus. Schools do not have to close the media center for our book fairs since everything takes place on the bus. We have personnel to handle the cash management and stocking each day. We pride ourselves on personalized customer service not only to the schools but to each child or parent shopping on the bus. We also give back a portion of the sales each week to the school.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Metro Atlanta is a wonderful place for Pickle Patch. There are many different school districts to work with and even more schools within the districts. While we like to stay close to home in Cobb County, we service schools in different parts of the metro area.
