Today we’d like to introduce you to Macknificent.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Macknificent. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It all started back when I was young. My parents always volunteered me to sing at any and every function they were apart of. I sang at funerals, church functions, in the choir, and they even made me perform in front of my older family members every time we gathered together. I always sang but didn’t think in a million years that I would ever be doing it for a living. It wasn’t until my junior year of college at Valdosta State University that I decided to make a career out of my talent.
During my years at Vstate, I went through many trials and many major changes. I liked doing a lot of things, but I didn’t have a true passion for anything that I was studying. I fasted and prayed until God revealed to me that singing is what I was put on His green earth to do. As soon as I made my decision, I immediately started taking singing classes such as music theory, Russian opera, history of music, music in film, vocal lessons, and more. I also joined clubs and organizations on campus that centered heavily on music and/or entertainment. I was booked and busy for months. I had somewhere to sing at once a week minimum for things like talent shows, open mics, workshops, and I even emailed everyone on the athletics board so that I could sing the national anthem before games. I was and still am very serious about my decision to be a singer.
In December 2019, I launched my singing channel on Instagram (@macktunes) and began with my segment called “25 Days of Macktunes,” where I dropped a video of me singing a song every day from December 1st – Christmas Day. I honestly wasn’t expecting it to do as well as it did. I started by getting roughly 50 views a video and by Christmas, I was getting 300+ views a video! Recently, I dropped my first EP, The Journey Begins, on all streaming platforms. My debut single, “The Ride,” featured on the EP, was ranked number one on Valdosta’s 107.9 the beat radio show segment, “Beat it or Delete it” for three consecutive weeks placing me in the radio show’s Hall of Fame. Currently, I spend a lot of my time making music. I sing on live web shows via social media, in addition to weekly postings on my channel full of content such as original tunes, remixes, music videos, etc. new music is definitely on the way. I’m always working.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have had many struggles along the way, including producers trying to take my content illegally, dealing with people calling me too picky and overthinking when their ideas don’t align with my vision. I even lost my voice a couple of times due to the stress I put on it from singing so often. People also sometimes struggle with wanting to work with me because they think I should pick a genre and I don’t do well with stereotypes so that never works. I don’t see myself as affiliated with any one specific genre.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
My name is Macknificent. I got the name from my nickname “Mack” and merged it with my favorite word to describe myself, “Magnificent”. I am an independent music artist from Henry County, GA. I’m most known for my singing channel on Instagram @macktunes. I sing songs at least once a week and post them on my page. I sometimes do music videos and often times I remix some of my favorite songs. Singing is my passion. It flows effortlessly. I believe what sets me apart from others is the fact that none of my original content has curse words, and I intend to keep it that way. Also, I don’t consider my music as any type of genre.
Whatever I sing, whether it’s pop, country, gospel, hip hop, trap, or even opera, it will come out of my mouth effortlessly and a job well done for the Lord, never to fit boxes or to please the world. I’m very diverse. I can sing high, low, fast, slow. You name it. Put me on any type of beat and I will kill it! I’m very proud of my boost in confidence with my voice and the fact that my fear of being on stage is slowly but surely going away. The most proud moment on my journey thus far is winning the radio show’s “Beat it or Delete it” with my first ever released single, “The Ride.” I’m in a hall of fame and The Journey is only beginning.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m a firm believer in praying and manifesting. I don’t believe in luck. I believe in God, and I know He is blessing and watching over me because I am living my purpose the way He wants me to. I can confirm that by the amount of blessings I keep getting centered around my music. Oftentimes I pray for answers or guidance and then boom! I get exactly what I prayed for and more. God is so good to me and I’m forever grateful. The Bible says that the world must make room for your gifts. I’m a living witness. Even throughout the entire pandemic I have not been phased. In fact, even more opportunities have been revealed to me than ever before. I’ve lacked nothing through this journey. As long as you have plans to do something that aligns with God and your purpose it will become your reality. The Lord is in the blessing business! There is no need to depend on luck.
