Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Rush.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
When I was 7, I was diagnosed with a large osteochondroma tumor in my right shoulder. Although these tumors are actually fairly common, mine was aggressive. My shoulder, humerus, and growth plate were destroyed, causing me to have a large reconstructive surgery. Ultimately, my shoulder and arm have been disfigured and much shorter than the average person’s because of this. I started The Rush Hour, my blog, to share my favorite things as well as to take people on my journey to living confidently with my #bodyquirk. I have been blown away by the response to my story and am loving getting to share with the world my small wins, like going to the grocery store in a tank top or not hiding in a sea of cardigans.
Please tell us about your art.
I hope that people will visit The Rush Hour and feel inspired to live a life that’s confident and joyful. I also hope they will feel inspired to wear pieces they love without fear of stares or negative attention. I would absolutely love to connect with individuals who have similar stories or who have spent years living in fear of showing a part of themselves to the world.
One day I woke up and realized that I was TIRED of living self-consciously because I had a short, weird-looking arm. My hope is that I will be a blessing to those who are living the way I once was- scared, self-conscious, and talking negatively to myself ABOUT myself. I want to help people step out of their fear and into a brighter life by reminding them that often people aren’t staring because they’re mean or have malicious intent, but they’re staring because they’re curious and that’s okay. It’s not my business what other people think of me.
I tend to share my day on Instagram and love to write blogs about confidence and boosting the joy in your day. I also share things I love like recipes, clothing, makeup and skin care, etc.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
The biggest challenge for individuals is to stand out. It’s almost impossible to stand out without developing a niche. When I first created The Rush Hour, I wasn’t planning to make my platform about living with a body quirk and developing confidence. I honestly thought that I was just going to pursue sharing some of my favorite hobbies like style, skin care, music, recipes, etc. The day I realized that the thing I had been hiding all along was meant to be my strength was the day everything changed for me. I recognized that I was meant to show the world my difference and to live authentically through that bravery.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can see all of my work on www.the-rush-hour.com. You can also find me on Instagram at @madisonlrush and Facebook by searching ‘The Rush Hour”.
The biggest way someone can help me is by sharing my blog and socials with others. I want to reach as many people as I can, and that means I rely on those that have heard my story being willing to connect me with their friends and relatives.
You can also shop anything I wear or my favorite items directly from my site which helps me afford The Rush Hour’s features.
