Meet Maggie Russell of The Constant Baker in Ball Ground

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Russell.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Maggie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Seven years ago, my mom got my daughter a cake pop set for Christmas. The first batch we did was an epic fail, so I went on YouTube and watched a few cake pop tutorials, and before long we mastered cake pops! The rest, as they say, was history. I watched countless tutorials on everything baking, practiced and then practiced some more until I was confident enough to start my new path in cake decorating!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, that’s for sure. It took some time to figure out how to turn my love of everything cake into a life long career. I had to be patient while I built up a customer base and it took some time to become confident enough in myself to not undervalue my talent.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Constant Baker – what should we know?
Here at the Constant Baker, I pretty much do everything but pie, cake, cookies, cake pops, French Macarons, trifles, etc. I am a custom bakery only, so I do not have a retail storefront. I would say I am known for my creativity and having unique cake flavors. The cake industry is always changing so I make sure to keep up with every cake trend. I never want to turn a client away because the cake they want is out of my skill level. My bakery is located on our farm, so clients pick up their orders and get love from all the animals at the same time!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think being fearless has had a huge impact on my business. I had a vision of what I wanted my business to look like, and I just went for it. I never shy away from being pushed out of my comfort zone, and as a result of that, I’ve learned more about cake decorating than I ever thought possible and built a clientele I wouldn’t change for the world.
