Today we’d like to introduce you to Malachi Mills.
Malachi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Born into a southern gospel culture, I was raised on church choirs and praise music. Working for your own keep and having integrity while doing so were characteristics that I was blessed to be influenced by at a young age. This is where it all started for me. I was challenged to write my first song at age 15 and what I was writing was connecting with people on levels that didn’t even make sense to me, I was just writing from my heart. This was the raw beginnings of my ongoing journey as a singer/songwriter and Entrepreneur. Almost ten years later, I can look back on many adversities but I think the main thing that has kept me on the rails mentally, spiritually and financially is my faith. After spending my teenage years writing and singing explicitly gospel worship music, I then became lead singer/songwriter of North GA pop/soul band “Whispering Gypsies.” shortly after in 2017, I released my first public work entitled “Lose It” by Whispering Gypsies.
After two years of independently touring and recording WG disbanded and I have been focusing solely on my career as a songwriter. Although I have a passion for performance, my life goal is to be a respected professional songwriter. I have since released many other projects and made serious progress in establishing stability and a hope for my future goals. Performing solo for the past four years, I have realized that to be successful in music, you have to be equally versed in small business management just as much as you are skilled or talented. Today I am continuing to perform private events, public venues and songwriter showcases regularly as a main source of income, along with the never-ending pursuit to write my first major cut. I also lead my local church weekly in worship as a worship director.
Has it been a smooth road?
I would say the hardest thing about being a successful musician is persevering when there is no end in sight. To be majorly successful in music, you have to have recognition and a following. To have those things you must constantly be producing content to be consumed. This can be a tumultuous road of budgeting and investing time and money. This is why in my opinion, so many people give up on music careers. This is why I believe so firmly that you have to be willing to commit to business and pursue it equal to the art. That being said I have lived and learned but the main struggle for me has been the balance of art and business. I know now that ultimately this is a hidden secret to success as a musician or writer.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
To succeed as a musician in Atlanta you have to have hustle. It’s not going to hand you opportunities, but they are out there for the taking as a musician and songwriter.
