Meet Manasi Joshi of Peachtree City GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Manasi Joshi

Hi Manasi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I came to the USA in 2003 hoping to further my career as an Architect. Things didn’t go as planned.
Eventually, I started working odd jobs.
Around 2010, while visiting family in India, I attended a henna class.
That was the start of my journey as an Artist.
Henna was captivating and I couldn’t let go. It was very hard to master – a challenge that I took on gladly.

In 2015, my family and I moved to Peachtree City – a Atlanta suburb.
With a huge south Asian population, it was time to up my henna game.

I decided to get into bridal henna -the ultimate challenge for any henna artist. Especially since I was used to doing henna at festivals and for parties only.

The stakes were much higher. I decided to focus on it full time by quitting my odd jobs.

Getting bridal henna clients on the other hand was easier said that done. It took several years before there was a steady stream of work. Social media played a big part in spreading the word.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
By choosing henna as a career, I had taken a off beaten path filled with obstacles.
Long story short, the struggles were three-fold.

First was family. Having a small child at home and a husband who traveled often – left little room to schedule time consuming appointments like bridal henna.

Second was finding clients. I had tons of practice under my belt, but very few opportunities. It took quite a bit of time to spread the word . I persevered and kept on trying. The henna artist community played a big role in keeping my spirits high and encouraging me through the tough times.

Third & the most difficult one was myself. Trying to let go of my career as an Architect and embrace a new identity as an Artist – was not easy at all. That took the longest to come terms with.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a bridal henna specialist known for attention to details.
I’m most proud of my journey in henna – the growth in my artistry and me as person.

What sets me apart is who I set as my competition.
I compete with myself. Each day I want to be a better person and a better artist than I was yesterday.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Playing board games with family.
