Today we’d like to introduce you to Maquitta Sherrod.
Maquitta, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Coming from a small town in Greenville NC, it wasn’t much to do but one of my favorite things to do was watch reality Tv and I love some Love & Hip-hop especially New York and manager Yandy was my favorite especially when my family and friends said I favor her a lil but I love her drive, her vision, how she was a beautiful Black woman and all about her business. I have always been in tune with music especially growing up in the 90s and early 2000s. I always told myself one day, I’m going to be a dope manager discovering music and sound that deserves to be heard or pay attention too… three years ago, I lost someone close to me, my grandmother, losing her change my life. Being from a small town, I had nothing, going the jobs had no benefits, no family entertainment. No dreams and my dreams were bigger than the little box I was born into. After I lost my grandmother, I had no reason to stay and maintain the survival life I was living so I pack up and move to Atlanta, Ga with two children and no family to become the person I always knew I had in me… I came across this guy out in my new neighborhood, we became friends. One of my first associate here told me he was deaf but wears hearing aid but he had a powerful voice and I ask him what is going to do with that voice, he laughs at me, of course, then I started rapping, just playing around and he joins in with a few pointers and advice I had created. My first artist DeaF TEE, the First Independent deaf artist coming out of Bankhead, Atlanta. It became serious, our first studio session and then, our first performance and ever since then, the take-off started and came fast and that’s how it clicked in my head to start a management company and now, we have Top Drip Management for Indie artists. Helping artists get the exposure they need and fanbase to build a good foundation in their music career.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have always been a networking person, so it kind of has been a smooth road for me. I think this is a gift that God gave me, that I was born with. I know how to talk to people, I know how to interact with people. I have always been that social butterfly, very determined or ambitious about anything that I do. If I say I’m going to do something, it gets done. I’m that determined and dedicated and I let nothing gets in my way…

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I think good luck has played in my life the past three years since I moved to Atlanta because moving here and not knowing anyone going off of a dream and a vision I have in my head, every person I have come across or connected to has had the same business-minded potential I have had in the same vision and goals as an entrepreneur. I have met some great connected people that believed in me enough to introduce me to their connected people which has opened doors for me that I would never see if I was still in my box in North Carolina, so I believe that’s good luck and my guardian angel, my grandmother guiding me in the right direction.
