Today we’d like to introduce you to Marc Collins.
Marc, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The journey for me started in my middle school theatre, being an understudy in the play, “Beware the Jabberwock.” At the time, I had not the slightest clue that I had a love and passion for acting. I just knew that when Prince Percy called in sick the week of the show, that I had to be ready to hop on stage. However, I was not completely ready, if you get my drift, and because I did not have the lines memorized, I hid my script in my shield on stage. The audience loved it and ate it up! They could not believe how invested I was and determined I was, to not break character on stage while glancing at my shield every now and again. From this impromptu theatrical debut, I knew I loved acting, and that I truly had fun in becoming a character that depended on me holding tight to my imagination and never letting go. It was like, if I stopped believing in the imaginative creations in my mind, I would not be able to inspire in my performance. I remained a strong believer in the mantra, “Imagine, create, inspire,” and performed whenever I got a chance. I received recognition throughout middle school and high school for my performances in the theatre.
Although once, I came into the film world, acting only became more of the center of my heart. My first film booking was a background extra in a MattyB music video, and I loved it. After that, I starred in my own Independent featured film, and in that same year, booked a recurring guest star role on ABC’s ‘Kevin Probably Saves the World’. With the blessings of God, I was able to stay resilient and spontaneous after many auditions. I can definitely say I have had more losses than wins, but when I am down, I always think about Denzel Washington saying, “If you don’t fail, you’re not even trying,” and Will Smith proclaiming that “Success is when preparation meets opportunity.” So I have always learned to keep my head up and keep falling in love with my craft. In January 2019, I auditioned for the Full Tuition Theatre Scholarship at Oglethorpe University and was successful in obtaining it. I believe I am only beginning my journey to achieve my dream of being a successful, sensational actor.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think the biggest obstacle for me was doing school and acting outside of school. It challenged my time management skills, and I did not appreciate it before, but I sure appreciate it now. Now when I book, I am used to maneuvering school and whatever project I am on.
Another obstacle for me is keeping in mind at all times, that I have to bring ME always to the table. I went through a lot of auditions trying to book the role instead of booking the room, and at the end of the day, I learn that I personally like knowing I showcased myself to the casting director, producer, or writer after an audition rather than the character. Because when I keep in mind that I can only bring me and that it’s up the people in the room if they want me, my confidence goes up so much. It’s sensational.
Please tell us about Collins Productions.
I began my business recently, and why my company is going to be so unique, is because it will incorporate actors, singers, dancers, writers, editors, directors, sound teams, light teams, and more that will collaborate on each other’s projects. My company is going to be a place where it is so easy to reach out to someone else for their skill set because we all work together to produce, to imagine, create, and inspire. Unlike a lot of other production companies, the environment will be intimate and personal, and overall a representation of the loving artistry community in Georgia.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I could start over, I would do nothing differently. Every failure, I learned from and I continue to trust in God’s plan.
