Meet Marcia Lain of Dog City Bakery in East Cobb and Sandy Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcia Lain.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Marcia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always been a dog lover. I was raised with a wire-haired fox terrier named Lady my father used to train for obedience shows. When me and my husband were raising our own three kids some of our fondest memories were linked to the dogs we owned. Going to the local animal shelter to look at the animals was a common weekend activity for me and the kids. Having a pet was a big part of what made our family feel complete.

Naturally, baking treats for our dogs came from that love we had for them as part of the family. I’ve always valued healthy living and did a lot of cooking when my kids were little. I took the same standards I had when I baked for my kids as I did when I was baking for my dogs. From the beginning, it was important that my handmade dog treats were healthy, delicious, and made of the finest ingredients.

Living in east cobb I noticed no one sold high-quality dog treats similar to the ones I baked fresh. It was completely impossible to buy dog treats made with human grade ingredients, let alone ones without any of the fillers, artificial flavors or colors and preservatives so common in most of the popular dog treat brands. That was when I decided to open Dog City Bakery east cobb very close to where I lived and shopped and raised my family.

Dog City Bakery slowly started building a community of shoppers who trusted us and loved our treats. With its success, I decided to open up another Dog City Bakery just down the street in the popular and ever-expanding Sandy Springs. We affectionately call our Sandy Springs location Dog City Bakery 2.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Owning and starting a business is never smooth. There have been many challenges that come with owning and running a small company. Come into Dog City and you will see me running dog food to people’s car, mopping the floors and working on the books. Managing people has always been the most challenging and rewarding part of the day-to-day work.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dog City Bakery – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
