Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Johnson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Marcus. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was introduced to finance through a project my senior year of high school in my economics class. We were given the task of creating a business and we had to figure out how to drive our stock prices up. The group that had the highest stock prices would win and get an automatic A for the semester. Through this challenging project, I had to learn about business and the ins and outs of how the stock market works. My group won the challenge and that was the start of my passion for this industry. From there, I went on to TSU and majored in Economics and Finance and landed a job on Wall Street after college. I worked there for several years and decided I want to do more, so I shifted gears and became a Financial Advisor. Today, I spend most of my time educating and planning with clients to help them meet their financial planning goals.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not! Building a business of any caliber takes a lot of trial and error, but this field provided challenges I wasn’t prepared for. When I decided to leave my corporate job in order to go out on my own, it was a struggle for sure. My first couple of years in the business was extremely tough because it’s all about having trust and relationships with clients in this business. That takes a lot of time to build and in the beginning, if you don’t have clients then you aren’t really making a lot of money. I can remember back in 2013 almost quitting and going back to corporate America, but because I had great support from my wife, she encouraged me to stick it through and I’m very grateful that I did.

Through these areas, we develop comprehensive financial plans that help each individual client reach their long-term goals, whatever that may look like on a case-by-case basis. Is our city a good place to do what you do?
For sure! Nashville is growing more and more each day. I will say that in my business, its best to be located where you have a natural market. You want to be somewhere where people in the community know and love you. In my opinion, that speeds up the ability to be sustainable in this business.
