Meet Marcus Pollard of Bee Pimpn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Pollard.

Hi Marcus, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Bee Pimpn began as a small family homestead focused on produce cultivation and sales in 2018 in Fayetteville, Georgia. As the operation expanded, so did its offerings, which soon included poultry and eventually honey bees. Without prior experience or established contacts in beekeeping, I, Marcus Pollard, committed to self-education, joined local beekeeping clubs, and enrolled in the UGA Master Beekeeper Program. This pursuit ignited a strong passion for apiculture, leading to increased recognition through word of mouth and subsequent business growth.

Having since attained my Master Beekeeper Certification, I now travel domestically and internationally to speak at and attend conferences, continually enhancing my knowledge to advance the business. Today, Bee Pimpn specializes in all aspects related to honey bees—from producing premium honey to serving as a leading honey bee removal expert in Georgia. Our apiaries are strategically placed throughout the south metro Atlanta region, including Fayetteville, Griffin, Brooks, and Fairburn, and we follow the honey flow by relocating colonies between southern and northern Georgia as needed. The business is led by myself and is supported by my young Board of Directors, Bumble and Buzz.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey in beekeeping has presented significant challenges. Key issues include acquiring in-depth knowledge of honey bee biology and implementing effective strategies to maintain colony health. The prevalence of Varroa mites has become a major concern within the industry, making it increasingly complex to preserve healthy bee populations each year. A positive challenge we face is meeting the high demand for honey—often, our supply does not keep pace with customer interest. At Bee Pimpn, we are committed to transparency in sourcing our honey both locally from our own bees and globally from reputable beekeepers. As with any agricultural product, honey production is seasonal; therefore, the yield from one season determines the available supply until the next harvest. Maintaining robust honey bee health, strong colony numbers, and thriving apiaries remains essential to consistently meet this demand.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk plays an essential role in our lives, driving growth and learning beyond what we already know. My strategy for facing risk blends careful planning with adaptability—I assess potential hazards and prepare for different outcomes, while staying flexible if unexpected challenges appear. Since it’s impossible to eliminate risk entirely, embracing it and finding solace in the process helps us not only survive but thrive. My formal training is in business obtaining my undergraduate degree in Accounting at the illustrious North Carolina A&T State University, MBA from University of Iowa and a CPA certification. Having spent almost 2 decades in the corporate world in internal audit and finance, it has allowed me to become very familiar with risk and risk mitigation strategies.

I also believe in understanding what where my personal “rock bottom” is. Meaning if this risk venture should completely fail where would I land and how can I rebuild from a place of minimal damage. Building a safety net in life is also key in removing the anxiety associated with risk.
