My wife, Marvis, and I realized our sons, Ryan and Dylan, were very good—experts, really—at asking for money, as you’d expect from teenage boys.
After years in corporate America, we decided it was time to create something of our own—something that could teach our boys more than a paycheck ever could. We wanted them to experience firsthand what it takes to earn, build, and grow.
From that idea, Snowie Atlanta was born. They’ve been involved in every aspect of starting and developing the business, and it’s been a real eye-opener for them. They’re learning what hard work, dedication, and the true costs of running a business look like in real time.
My hope and prayer is that what they gain from operating this shaved ice rental business will guide them throughout their lives—instilling the same independence, creativity, and work ethic that leaving corporate America has taught us.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Our first event was one for the books.
We had spent weeks preparing—every supply stocked, every bottle labeled, every checklist triple-checked. The night before, we stood back and admired it all, feeling pretty proud that we were ready to roll. Then morning came.
The trailer wouldn’t hitch.
After all that preparation, there we were—sweating in the driveway, tools scattered, the clock ticking down to our first event. It was a real test of patience and teamwork. But instead of panicking, we pulled together. Everyone played a part, from problem-solving to keeping spirits up, and somehow, we made it.
That day was an eye-opener. It reminded us that no matter how ready you think you are, business (and life) will always throw you a curveball. What matters is how you work through it—together.
