Meet Marcus Turner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Turner.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Marcus. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well like most musicians, I began playing in church at a very young age. I first started on drums when I was about nine years old. I’ve always wanted to play the bass but I felt like it would be a difficult instrument to learn at such a young age. The bass player at my church inspired me to want to learn because he made it look and sound so incredible. Once my parents bought me my first bass guitar at the age of 12, they instantly knew that the bass guitar will forever be my instrument.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There were a couple of obstacles I’ve struggled to get over but the one obstacle that held me back was comparing myself to others. Being in the music industry, you will realize that there are some very unique and talented individuals in this field of work. Sometimes I felt like I wasn’t as great or talented as some of my musical peers because I couldn’t play or sound like them. It took years to finally realize that I’m not supposed to play or sound like anyone else. Music is a form of art. Also, art is a form of expression and that’s what makes music so awesome because no one is going to exhibit the same exact energy to music like me and vise versa. Once I truly believed that I began getting more confident in my sound and more doors and opportunities began to take place in my life.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a professional Bass Guitarist, Producer, and Composer. I’ve had the opportunity to play bass for many amazing artists such as: Music Souldchild, TLC, Rotimi, Mya, Bobby Valentino just to name a few.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Honestly, I wouldn’t do anything differently because I believe God has my life mapped out for a reason.
