Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Workman.
Marcus, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in five different states and ten learning institutions before I was 16, I was able to acquire a keen understanding of people and the value of money, see like most Black Americans, my parents struggled with a similar wealth acquiring mindset, chin deep in liabilities and just missing the assets. So at 17, I set out to manage both their stock portfolios and begin my journey of financial literacy. At 18, I successfully founded an Investment group at Morehouse College, which now currently promotes financial literacy and awareness to its 200+ members.
Since then, I’ve been honing my community building and business development skills. The Covid-19 pandemic hit in full swing, 30 days after the ink on our founding documents dried, but luckily I practiced what I preached and acted decisively to scale up. At PRJCT LAZRUS, we assimilate the concepts of wealth within the black community with our social finance platforms, keeping financial literacy the forefront of mainstream conversations. I am Marcus Workman, CEO and cofounder of Project Lazarus LLC.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Since starting this company with my cofounder Zachary Heneden, we’ve run into a plethora of road bumps and struggles since the ink on our founding documents dried in early May. We’ve run into almost every problem from business plan management & execution, to effectively communicating project deadlines to contractors. But like anything, with perseverance come success, we’re still early on and are bound to run into many more problems ahead, but the more we learn along the road, the wiser we’re bound to get.

At PRJCT LAZRUS we assimilate the concepts of wealth within the black community with our social finance platforms, keeping financial literacy the forefront of mainstream conversations. Prjct Lazrus LLC is a company based on promoting financial awareness and literacy within the black and minority community. We build viable, easily accessible social finance-based media platforms focused on implementing group learning, public advocacy, & financial proficiency to black and minority students across the US. Something I believe we at PRJCT LAZRUS are most proud of is our ability to stick to our business plan and keep it consistent with the products that we release to market. Something thing set us aside from competitors is our focus on content moderation and the integrity of the information being presented & shared between our users.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Given a chance to start over, I probably wouldn’t change too many things. I believe we started off strong and, if anything, will be making major tweaks along the road but starting off strong was probably our best first step.
