Today we’d like to introduce you to Margo Danee’.
Margo, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My parents really started my dance journey for me. When I was three, they put me in any form of dance that they could. I started off in Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Tumbling, and then moved up to a competition team in middle school. I danced at a studio up until high school, where I joined the dance team and became captain my senior year. It was freshman year of college when my ballet teacher presented me with my first real audition. I booked the job and was casted in Pitch Perfect. Working on that project made me realize that dancing could be more than just a hobby. A couple of years later, I auditioned for the New Orleans Pelicans Dance Team and made it. I ended up doing two seasons with the NBA, then moved to Atlanta to begin my career as a Commerical Dancer. My training began at ATLA Entertainment Studios, where I learned many skills that I would need as a professional dancer. Fast forward to three years later, and I’m currently proud of everything I’ve accomplished and where I’m going.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think any artist can agree that choosing this path is not easy. The hardest part was taking the leap to move to a brand new city and diving into the unknown. It’s also a struggle to find balance. As an artist, I am a business, so I have to invest in myself quite often. At first, it was difficult trying to have a job and dance because I would always put my dance career first. I finally gathered different side hustles for the slow times, making it easier to fully focus on dance and only work on my own time. Altogether, choosing dance makes even the toughest times feel easy to get through.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a Professional Dancer. I specialize in a wide range of dance genres, including Ballet and Hip hop. I’ve worked on movie and TV sets, and I’ve also performed live on tours and award shows. I also have an extensive background with dance teams from children to professional teams. I’m extremely proud of what I’ve accomplished in the three years that I’ve been in Atlanta and I’m ready to continue the momentum. Versatility is my strength in this industry. I’m able to adapt to almost any style of dance.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
One thing I’ve never gone without in my life is support. There are so many people who contributed to my success, I can’t name them all. My biggest support system was my parents. My mother was the perfect dance mom, my dad was my biggest (and loudest) cheerleader, and my stepdad consistently made sure that I had everything I needed to succeed. My entire family has always shown up for countless performances, and have always been encouraging to anything I have going on. My high school dance team coach, Farney, was another big influence in my life. She gave me the freedom to explore creatively and allowed me to choreograph pieces for my team. Currently, I would have to say that my mentors, Kiki Ely, and Sakinah LeStage made a huge impact on my life. They encouraged me to take that leap of faith and move to Atlanta in the first place. It was through their training at ATLA Entertainment Studios that I gained the knowledge on all sides of the business to have a successful dance career. I also have to acknowledge that I have amazing and supportive friends that consistently send me positive vibes!
