Meet Marie-louise Boisnier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marie-louise Boisnier.

Hi Marie-louise, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Whilst growing up my environment changed quite frequently, but despite this multicultural upbringing, there was one thing that stayed constant. I always knew where my heart lay and that where I was happiest was always in the Performing Arts. I started through singing and choir, which eventually evolved into a profound love for Plays, Competitions, Musicals, Drama camps, Workshops, and everything in between.

Once I turned 18, it seemed that the next logical step was to pursue a career in the arts. I had no idea what to expect, so my mum, my biggest support, drove with me and waited for me after every audition. I was over the moon when I learned I was accepted to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. It was everything I had imagined it to be, only better. Even through the struggles of zoom and the pandemic, waking up and being able to do what I loved really motivated me. I was surrounded by such passionate and talented people and I cannot voice my gratitude for them enough. I decided to further my knowledge and dive into a completely different acting method and auditioned for The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film institute. Being a Pandemic Graduate never stopped my desire for The Arts in fact it only made me yearn for it more. I have since played in several Off Broadway Theatre’s in Manhattan.

My New York Credits Include Credits Include Marilyn Monroe in Jackie Marilyn Marilyn Jackie. Miss Sherlene in At Least He Didn’t Die with No Antlers On His Head, and Toni in Staten Island The Musical. Ronnie in A Night with Davinia and Friends. Clara in Through.

My London Credits Include The Narrator in Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat. Anna in the King and I. Lyla in Dream on Baransky !. Meatloaf in We Will Rock You. Simone in Elemonpea. Paulette in Legally Blonde. Leni in Joseph K. Ensemble member in Taming of The shrew and A Streetcar named Desire.

Singing has always been a huge part of my life and the pandemic gave me the chance to fully develop songs I had written years ago. I recently released my third single Little House On The Clouds. Which can be found on both Apple Music and Spotify.

I am looking forward to all the projects lined up in 2023. Now that the city is back and roaring with life! I am set to play In The American Theatre of Actors upcoming Musical ‘Dream On Baransky !’ I shall be playing Lyla a hilarious British character who is just desperate to get Married… to Mr Baransky!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing went as I planned – the pandemic being the main obstacle however at the time I didn’t see it but it actually made me take decisions and risks within my career that I wouldn’t have maybe taken before which has led me to where I am today! It was meant!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Musical Theatre and Singing is where I strive. There’s nothing more thrilling to me than singing/performing live with a live audience. I have performed in Musicals and Musical theatre cabarets across Manhattan from Don’t tell Mama in Midtown to Bacall’s in Times Square and The Triad Theatre. I believe I have an old soul in the sense that a dim theatre and a microphone stand is all you need! I have a passion for accents and have loved exploring new characters though that, it makes it come to life. Recently I played a southern belle and an old Italian pizza maker from Staten Island. Quite the Adventure! I think definitely coming from Europe and speaking multiple languages, and my British upbringing has definitely made me stand out in auditions. I am definitely grateful to have grown up in the UK as the arts are so embedded in you from a young age. I started LAMDA Musical theatre exams when I was just 10 and passed them all with Distinction. I was very keen to perform and put myself out there and quickly managed to get the lead roles in my high school and then spent my summers performing in Musical theatre run’s in London that I would Audition for. This gave me a really good start and foundation to build my career on as that work and performing ethic was in me. I sang a solo at The Royal Albert Hall when I was just 12 on The National Youth Choir Tour, it was pretty remarkable looking back at it now.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Definitely, I think it allowed me to create my own work, to collaborate with people and find outlets to continue performing and entertaining. I learnt that life is very short and valuable and that you mustn’t take it for granted.
