Today we’d like to introduce you to Vegan Da’rrell.
Author, actor, model Vegan Darrell Franklin was born in Chicago, Illinois. He began his entertainment career at the early age of 3 years old, modeling in fashion shows which lead to stage plays by the age of 6.
After a brief tour in the United States Marine Corps, Franklin returned to Chicago and began modeling in shows such as Chicago Black Expo and For Sistas Only. After being asked to narrate a children’s play, Franklin got the acting bug and starred in several plays including Dracula, Black Broadway, and Sylvia.
Franklin made the transition to film after being a model on the Jenny Jones Show. He made his film debut in The Meard, a Christopher Nolan Film.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am in the process of writing another book about my life entitled “Growing Up Pretty, Blessing or Curse”.
Also, I am in the process of Making my book “What A Real Man Really Wants” into a stage play and possibly a film. I am Also a working actor and I will be doing a lot more acting in 2017.
Let’s explore some of the challenges you’ve faced along the way. What was the most difficult part of your career so far?
My Dad passed this year in February and I was in the middle of a stage performance. I had to go to Chicago and take care of my dad’s service and get back on stage here in Atlanta. It was a very difficult experience but I know my Dad would not want me to stop working, to give up on my dreams, so I continued on my journey in the Arts and that experience made me a stronger artist.
Are there days when you feel like you’ve done everything you wanted to, careerwise – the “I’ve made it” kind of moments?
I feel that my career is going in the right direction when you get asked to be a part of projects, no auditions. It lets me know I’m doing a quality body of work and it feels good to know your Art is being appreciated.
