Meet Marisol Morales

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisol Morales.

Marisol, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started cosmetology school in 2013 at Paul Mitchell the School San Antonio. I had always envisioned myself doing special event hair (i.e. prom and bridal) but when I graduated from school, I quickly realized I didn’t like hair as much as I thought I did. When I moved to ATL, I worked at a barbershop as a last-ditch effort to try to see if hair was still on my radar but still, I could see I didn’t have the spark or the drive to be doing hair.

I remember saying “I really like to do my eyebrows, why not try to focus on that instead of hair,” so I applied at Ulta and within a month, I was working. I knew that that’s where I was supposed to be really early on because I felt the passion and excitement of being able to “solve” brow problems and give people a look they thought they could never achieve. Fast forward to two years later and I’m still at Ulta – constantly learning new things and trying to grow my brand as much as possible.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was hard in the beginning to find my flow. What people don’t realize is that in the service industry, it’s not “just doing brows”… I am building relationships with people. I am helping you fix brow mishaps. I’m teaching you how to properly fill in your brows so that it doesn’t look obvious that you just filled them in. There’s a lot more that goes into brows than what most people think.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specialize in eyebrow maintenance and styling (waxing, tweezing, and tinting). Most places you go to will “clean up” your brows and send you out the door without explaining the process or teaching you how to properly fill in your brows. Because of this, most of my guests tell me about how the last person who did their brows made them too thin or didn’t listen to what they wanted… which is why when you come to me, you are getting an experience, not just a wax. I utilize brow mapping to show you the most flattering shape for your face. This allows you to have a thorough understanding of what you’d like to keep, change, or grow. In addition to that, at the end of the service, I give you a tutorial of how to fill in your brows to maintain the same look I give you at home.

Currently, I am working at the brow bar inside Ulta, but I am hoping to be in my own space in the future.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Trust. That is definitely the most important thing. When people can trust that I’m going to listen to what they want, that I’m going to be honest with them about what results we can achieve, and trust that I’m going to make the best product recommendations for them, that makes the whole process a lot smoother. I am most proud when I am able to turn a very hesitant first-time guest into someone who trusts me. Seeing the look on their face when I finally turn the mirror around to show them their brows and the look of relief that says, “I finally found someone who listened to what I wanted and delivered“ – that’s priceless!

I want my guests to know that when they come to me, they can rest assured that they will be taken care of – from their brows all the way to a safe and sanitized environment. My guest’s comfort means the most to me and I know that trust is the most important emotion that they need to feel when in my chair.
