

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariya Bentz.
Mariya, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved design and technology. Even growing up, I geeked out over it!
When I was in third grade, email began to be more popular…I would send my friends email newsletters every few weeks which were essentially like a mini-online magazine. Then in middle school, when MySpace was THE social network of choice– I taught myself HTML and began to design my own MySpace layouts. I even had my own MySpace layout website where other users would use my layouts and various HTML codes that I had provided to them on their MySpace profiles. I remember waking up at 5am on a school day just so I can check on my website analytics before going to school. I found so much excitement in being able to design something that others would use!
Fast forward to now, I am the creator and founder of MBM Agency– a digital marketing company which specializes in website design and search engine optimization. What makes us stand out from other website design companies is that we first make sure that your website is able to be found on Google’s search engine, and once a potential customer visits your website– that the layout and the messaging of the site help convert the visitor into a lead.
I originally started working as a freelancer. This was my side hustle in addition to my full-time job as a Marketing Manager. Within just a couple of years, my side-hustle grew. I now manage a team of four, working with the best clients all over the United States!
Earlier this year, I also started an entrepreneurial podcast called “The Marketing Mindset Podcast.” We believe that in order to grow a successful business you need just two things: the right marketing strategy and the right mindset. This marketing podcast delivers actionable strategies and advice from creating a success mindset to creating a marketing plan for your business using social media, email campaigns, blogging, SEO, and so much more. Our hope from our marketing podcast is that you are able to walk away from each episode motivated to grow your business and have the steps in order to do so. I am proud to say we’ve topped iTunes charts as a Top 200 Business podcast, Top 200 Entrepreneurial podcast, and we were on their charts under New Business New & Noteworthy our first few months.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The simple answer is no, it has not been a smooth road. But is it ever? I think that every entrepreneurial journey has its difficulties.
In the beginning, it could be difficult to sign on new clients. But then as you grow– while it is very exciting– there are always growing pains in new seasons.
A growing pain that I went through recently is creating better workflows in our company as we started to grow the team. I started as a freelancer, so I continued running my company in a “freelance process” as I started adding on to the team. But quickly realized that if I wanted to scale my company in the way that I wanted too, I had to find another way.
I knew I had to create better systems and processes internally. So for about a month and a half (in addition to the client work I had) I spent many late nights and weekend creating a better workflow. Using a project management system, we created a simple 7 step process from the point of when someone signs the contract to have us design their website for them, all the way to the final email. Each step has various subtasks that have more detailed instructions and has a “stage” that we select each step of the way. The stages are: not started, working on it, approval needed, and done. Now, any new client we sign on– they all go through the same system and process. It is easy for my team to follow the system and easier for myself to see where we are each step of the way.

MBM Agency, LLC. – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
If you’re a business owner, this might sound familiar to you: You paid a designer to create a beautiful website– or maybe you even designed it yourself– and you felt so proud of it when it was finished, and you just couldn’t wait to hit that publish button.
