Meet Marjorie Reaves of BehatiReiki Apothecary in Chamblee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marjorie Reaves.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Marjorie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a child, I grew up in the Philippines around my grandmother and grandfather and my many uncles and aunties. My grandmother was considered a Faith Healer. I remember her always working with people, and even doing seances. I never really paid it much attention as I had moved away when I was about 6 or 7 years old. During my childhood, I had always experienced events that I couldn’t explain but had always kept it to myself and only telling my mother. I’ve lived all over the world, thanks to my stepfather being in the military, and I later joining the service myself. I had the opportunity to see different religions and practices. When I was overseas stationed in Okinawa, Japan, I had several paranormal events happen to me. I had seen apparitions in my workplace while standing duty—several things falling at different times of the night as I stood duty overnight. Finally, when I was about to leave the command to come back stateside, I talked to an older employee. He had told me the history of the building and said to me that it used to be the hospital back in the 1950s and used to have the morgue before they converted it to what it was when I was there. Right then and there, I knew what I was experiencing was truly real. I have several stories, too many to mention here. I had always researched and learned different practices. At the same time, I lived in South Carolina, my visits to Tennessee, North Georgia, and many other places where I would ask local practitioners questions and learned from them. Learned their methods, Bought books, watched documentaries, whatever I could get my hands on.

However, more recently, I had a life changing event. Back in 2015, I was in a dark place in my life, and one of my friends had invited me to go to this spiritual/motivational class to see Dr. Joyce Rennolds here in Buckhead, GA. I went to the class, and found guidance I needed at the time. Dr. Rennolds had inspired and motivated me to really look within and discover my gifts. I started researching more about my family, my background and history. I found out the women in my family always had “gifts”. I learned more about my grandmother and her practice. I asked family members what they remembers from grandma and grandpa, and pieced things back together. I like to note that my grandparents had passed away when I was in middle school, so I couldnt ask them. I took it upon myself to really dive in to learn even more. I attend several classes to learn more about Reiki, bought my first tarot deck, and dive in deeper to learn more about the spiritual world.

Fast forward to 2017, I was always a fan of natural beauty products like lotions, body butters. I saw a growing need for more natural products, and knew I could make it myself. I wanted to make products for me and my children. So I started making body butters. Made hair dressing to use on my kids hair, and several products. I decided to open up an online shop where others could purchase spiritual items as well as beauty products. I opened up my online shop where others can book my services, as well as purchase these items. I’ve expanded and am putting up more natural syrups and tinctures as well. I was talking to my mother recently, and she expressed how I am following in my grandmother’s footsteps. She had also helped people the same way. I was always turning to natural herbs as medicinal products to help those who needed it. It’s what I strive to be, to be in service to the Universe and others. I am embracing my true purpose. I know I am a healer and that’s what I am doing.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road is never smooth. People may think it is, but like anything else, you have to put in the work. Growing up, it was not the norm to talk about the “paranormal”. People would look at you crazy. It’s not like how it is now, where there are a growing number of people learning more about spirituality. I grew up in a Catholic household. So criticism from the religious community was always a struggle. I wish people would research more before they start being so critical. Another struggle is trying to start your own business. As a small business owner, I am the one who fronts up the money and takes risks. The old saying of, “you gotta spend money to make more money” is true. It is a lot of blood, sweat, and tears. I built my own brand, creating logos, making the products, and marketing. It’s a “one woman shop” type of deal.

I do everything myself, including shipping. I think in a time where companies like Amazon provide two day shipping, people want their products right away—not realizing that spiritual products take time to make. Other obstacles are critics. I can’t count how many times I get e-mails and messages saying that I will burn in hell for doing what I’m doing from religious extremists. I don’t pay them no mind. I block and ignore it. Another obstacle is finding a balance between work and family. Running your own business takes a lot of time and sometimes, your work hour goes late into the night. I am a single mother so I had to set boundaries for myself to ensure that I also take time out for myself, my children, and friends.

Please tell us about the company.
BehatiReiki Apothecary provides spiritual services and natural products. Services that are offered are home cleansings, Reiki Energy Healing, Candle Magik, and tarot readings. Natural products that I provide are beauty/intention oils, body butter, tinctures/syrups, and spiritual products. What I am most proud of as a company is basic. The opportunity to provide healing to someone else. Whether it is by spiritual services to help guide them, bring peace to their home/space, or by the use of natural products, I am helping them heal their body, soul, and mind. I like to think of what sets my company apart from others are the results. I take pleasure when customers follow up with me and share their personal stories. You would be surprised at the different clients that I encounter, all ranging from different backgrounds, ethnicities, and professions. Some local and some out of state and country. What sets my company apart is the true dedication and intention to help clients. It is not a gimmick. It is not a fad. This is a lifestyle.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
A favorite childhood memory of mine that sticks out is me playing with my cousins outside while in the Phillippines. I remember always climbing trees and being outside in the elements. I had always played in the dirt or sand. I remember coming across these “pretty rocks” at the time. I would collect them and put them in my pocket. Later as I got older, I found out those “pretty rocks” were indeed crystals. It’s so funny how as a child, you just “played” with whatever you had. It could be the most basic thing, like a box. For me, it was these “pretty rocks.” Knowing what I know now about crystals and their healing properties, I sit back and smile, realizing that I had always been drawn to the spiritual lifestyle.
