DJ Mark Battle was born Mark Adams in the busy streets of Brooklyn, NY. His early attraction to the sounds of the 70′s & 80′s was intensified each time he passed Brooklyn’s Fort Greene Park to hear the local DJ’s spinning. After a long summer working hard to purchase his first professional DJ set, this naturally skilled music enthusiast became an accomplished turntabilist performing in hot New York City nightclubs by the age of 16. For 10 consecutive years, DJ Mark Battle continued to perfect his craft and became one of the most sought after DJ’s in one of the largest and busiest cities in the world.
In 1994, DJ Mark Battle expanded his artistry to Atlanta and quickly created a buzz as one of Atlanta’s hottest DJ’s promoting the still famed “Tri-State Party” with Wax Factor Entertainment. Together, they electrified clubs and parties all over the city with their unique and upbeat style that cleverly combined an eclectic catalog that went from Hip Hop, all the way to Jazz with a splash of Reggae and Pop.
Today, DJ Mark Battle owns and operates a highly celebrated and successful full-service entertainment company known as One Sound and Entertainment. We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Getting to this point was not without some challenges. In fact, one of my biggest challenges was nestled in my idea to market myself to everyone. I marketed myself as a “DJ for hire” instead of a “DJ to desire”. So there was no real distinction between what I deliver and a person performing as a hobby. So people didn’t necessarily value my craft. It took me several painful moments for me to rebrand myself and realize I needed to appropriately set myself apart and constantly reshape the ideas of what a DJ should be and offer to clients. I needed to learn that it was my responsibility to fill the void and redefine what a DJ can be for an event to bring in that luxury element and take it to the next level.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the One Sound and Entertainment story. Tell us more about the business.

We provide the entire entertainment experience with luxury custom lighting and sound.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Ninety percent of my business is from client referrals. So theoretically it’s somewhat all luck! 🙂 If we believe the idea that someone will remember you and speak of you if you’ve done a horrible job 10x more than if you’ve done a fantastic job, then it’s more luck than people imagine. 🙂 So I’ve always had to control the controllables and greatly exceed my client’s expectations 10 fold to put the odds back in my favor. Therefore, I am extremely meticulous in my attention to all details with my clients. From my very first interaction with them to phone calls, my attire, my setup, my timeliness, our meet and greets all the way to the execution of the performance. I make myself accountable and responsible for raising the bar and delivering touches that go above and beyond their expectations. Even in cases where I see there are hiccups with my client’s other vendor’s that have nothing to do with me. I am often there to support and ensure my client’s event runs smoothly and to a standard of luxury. With great talent, and raising the bar every time I’ve opened myself to a good amount of opportunity for luck. But who knows…… it’s all just luck in the end right?
