Meet Mark Granigan of MiLEND

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Granigan.

Atlanta residents Mark Granigan and Dave Heinrich scrimped enough money together to open their own business, MiLEND, a mortgage lender and broker.

Granigan and Heinrich turned to family for a $30,000.00 loan to grow their fledgling company after they had maxed out credit cards within the first month of the company’s inception.

In 2007 the housing market imploded. “We saw the handwriting on the wall” says Granigan. “We took this opportunity to recruit top talent. In addition to grabbing up some of the best loan consultants, the company took the opportunity to transition from a mortgage broker to a direct lender.

Granigan decided to tailor each customers mortgage to their unique needs. Most companies had a list of loans to choose from, and homeowners had to choose from that list. This strategy lead to multiple years of double digit growth.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In 2011, the company opened up branches in the states that it conducted business in. That model was costly and did not work. because of management problems and a culture clash from an influx of personnel coming from big banks.

Compliance and lending regulations are constantly evolving causing costly changes.
