Hi Mark, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into design began as a hobby during high school. I started by crafting wedding invitations, church programs, and flyers, and even delved into videography. One of my early projects was creating a website in 9th grade to showcase my classmates’ poetry—a project that ignited my passion for web development.
As I advanced to Georgia Southern University, I continued to build on these skills. I took on a variety of design and web development projects for several campus offices, including Student Activities, the Alcohol and Other Drug Office, Greek Life, the Dean of Students, Judicial Affairs, and the Multicultural Student Center. Each project allowed me to deepen my expertise and explore different facets of graphic design and website creation.
After graduating, I maintained my design work as a side project, focusing on creating solutions for family and friends. This continued as a fulfilling hobby until I decided to take a significant leap. After considerable reflection and prayer, I made the decision to turn my passion into a full-time business. This led to the founding of King Design Solutions, where I now dedicate myself to providing high-quality design, web development and other services professionally.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to starting my business has definitely been challenging. One of the significant hurdles was securing funding. To get things off the ground, I used my savings from my full-time job to finance the startup. This personal investment was crucial but also a major risk. Another challenge was growing my clientele. Building a customer base required a lot of effort in marketing, delivering exceptional service, and adapting to feedback. Despite these struggles, each obstacle has provided valuable lessons and helped strengthen the business.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
While our business primarily operates virtually, allowing us to continue functioning smoothly during the Covid-19 crisis, the experience still imparted valuable lessons. We’ve learned the importance of adaptability and maintaining robust digital communication channels. The pandemic underscored how crucial it is to stay agile and responsive, even when our operations remain largely unaffected.
