Mark, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Zion Pressure Washing was founded about 19 years ago, I began this business when my son was born and named the company after him. In the beginning, I did business on the side as I use to be employed for Marta. Upon retiring about two years ago from Marta, I started working business full-time. Most service jobs were residential homes, gaining business through word of mouth as a source of advertising. Though I continue to service residential, the business has now moved into commercial clients, which services McDonald’s, Zaxbys, Apartment, and Townhome complexes. Hopefully, in the near future, our business can gain large shopping centers, which would be great exposure for the company.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say that with any business you learn as you go and make tweaks here and there to better serve your customers. I believe now that I am running the business at full-time capacity, more workflow is coming in, which keeps me busy especially spring and summer months. I would say with any business, the struggle that you face is that not all customers will be happy and no matter how great of a job that you do, there will always be complaints. My motto with tough customers is to identify the issue, do a walk through and if it’s something that’s fixable or missed on my end, I fix it with no hesitation. If the issue is due to old paint or stains that are beyond pressure washing, I try to recommend a service provider I know in that respected field.

The majority of our business is based on relationships built through successful projects and repeat business with prior clients. I would say I am most proud of building a company solely from the ground up and having the opportunity to grow within the community that I reside in.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I believe that the proudest moment for our business is moving from residential to commercial services. This movement shows growth and has open many doors of opportunity. Even though this is a positive movement for our company, we still make time for repeat and new residential customers as well. In the near future, I hope to gain more restaurants such as Chick-Fil-A, Wendy’s, Waffle House or Red Lobster, etc. This would make for a nice client resume when marketing my company to others.
