Meet Marlene

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlene.

Hi Marlene, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.

Hi! Thank you for having me here. I am a content creator from Mexico, I consider myself a proud Latina expanding her horizons here in Atlanta. I am a content creator doing reviews on local Mexican brands in social media.

It all started in summer 2020, when I felt like buying more local brands from my country due to the pandemic because I wanted my money to go to entrepreneurs in my community. And when I wanted to do so, I searched for reviews on social media about those brands but I couldn’t find any that fulfilled what I was looking for. I was looking for a review about the whole customer experience, that for me, and my knowledge as an Industrial Engineer is.

So, I started to do reviews as complete as possible on local Mexican brands. I consider myself very detail- oriented, and you can see it on my reviews. On my reviews you will find:
1. How my purchase went; was it easy to buy? How diverse is the brand?
2. The unboxing experience; did it arrive in good condition?
3. The first impressions; what are my initial thoughts?
4. The product cycle; how did the product work days after?

And last but not least I’ll let you know if I would buy it again or not, and invite you to make your own judgment about the product/brand. So, you may feel well informed on your next purchase.

It started on my Youtube Channel. And suddenly expanded to my Instagram and TikTok,  you can find the links below.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been smooth all the time. Because it is inevitable to compare yourself to others, and sometimes I find myself wanting to be where other creators are at (i.e. bigger following base, better equipment, etc). But then, I look back and realize that my old self wanted to be where I’m at now. For example; I’ve never pictured myself doing this interview, it’s truly magical for me.

Something that makes this road smooth is the community that is growing and interacting with me. I value the time each person spends watching my content and the feedback helps me to expand my creativity.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What I do opens a space where us consumers may find local alternatives to buy from and support. By doing so, I invite the community to consume consciously and make well-informed purchases.

In the same way, this brings a platform to incredible startups and small companies whose business model impacts in a positive way on society. For example; companies that pay fair wages to their workers, companies with sustainable practices and women-owned companies that empower other women.

What I am the most proud of is how something that started as a necessity for me and later as a creativity outlet, now creates bonds between consumers and entrepreneurs.

What’s next?
My plan is to continue offering a space where we can find local alternatives to consume consciously. Bringing the consumers and entrepreneurs together in the same conversation.

And to always let my creativity come to life so I can expand my horizons and reach every community I am part of. For example; by consuming local brands  from this beautiful city, because now I consider myself part of this community as well. I love Atlanta, it inspires me everyday and I am a fan already from great businesses that I love from my surrounding areas.

Thank you for having me here! It was so much fun.
