Meet Marlon Cabrera Jr of The Nerd Village in Lawrenceville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlon Cabrera Jr.

Marlon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, it started probably about this time last year when I was keeping up with the San Diego Comic Con announcements and I was at work. Honestly, I was reading up on all the news and just thought how cool it would be to actually BE THERE. I then went to sites like Comicbook.com and IGN just to read up and realized, at some point, these sites did not exist and everyone has to start from somewhere. Being that Instagram at the time seemed to me to be the biggest influencing social media, I began there. Problem was that I didn’t really know what I wanted to name this next big name in Pop Culture and Nerdism. I came up with The Nerd Village because all of my friends and family come to me first when they have a question with anything gaming, comics, movies, or TV show relation. It was like the whole village going to the village elder for guidance so that’s the name that stuck. Any and everyone can be a part of The Nerd Village, I want the name to feel comfortable for every and anyone to visit or ask questions. Currently, there are two members of the Nerd Village; myself Spider-Mylo, I pretty much run the day to day processes for all the postings and etc. Then, there is King Will who gives creative input and also will be heading out Movie Reviews. We met in the US Navy, where he is currently still active whereas I am a veteran of eight years. We have now expanded to Twitter, Facebook, and most recently YouTube. We are looking to expand and get a mass following hopefully launching a site possibly by next year.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every course has its bumps. I am a full-time family man with a full-time job so finding time to post and research is hard but I make time where I have it. King Will, I think, comes up with the same issue as he is Full-Time Active Duty in the United States Navy but we make it happen.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Nerd Village – what should we know?
The Nerd Village is in the entertainment reporting business. We specialize in providing the best and most accurate pop culture/nerd news! We want to be the number 1 outlet for people to come and read on what’s going on around the world. I think the thing I am most proud of is the name and actually taking a leap out on faith doing something that I have such a passion for. What sets us apart is our family culture that I want to bring in. With every post, I would like people to feel invited to give their opinion and discuss. We are One Village. I also want it to be a good name for Blerds (Black Nerds), as well as all Nerds, to feel comfortable in their own interests.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I want to always stay humble and want to be personable. I don’t want to eventually “blow up” per se and have people comment but never get a response because spreading knowledge/information is something that I love doing.
