Today we’d like to introduce you to Marquita Johnson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been a therapist for a decade helping individuals work through mental health issues like anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and other concerns. I grew up in Southwest Atlanta as a curious kid with an interest in people. I studied psychology and sociology at Georgia State University before pursuing a Master of Divinity degree and Master if of Science in Community Counseling at Mercer University.
My family did not necessarily embrace and believe in counseling. This was a stigma that existed in my family and one that is still prevalent. My family has since changed their minds and adopted the mindset of caring for one’s mental health. We have endured personally and witnessed how untreated mental health illness and substance abuse attempted to rob our family. This definitely allowed my passion for helping others to grow into focusing on speaking to educate others about the importance of caring for one’s mental health.
This passion continued to be fueled by a desire to offer hope to those who have suffered alone in silence. My endeavors led me to work in higher education. This was a pivotal time in my career as it was after leaving a suicide crisis line helping those who were at a vulnerable time in life. While working at Georgia State University Perimeter I found my niche where my passion and skills aligned. For the first time in my career, I was engulfed in the life of millennials and all that it encompassed. The funny thing was I too was included in this millennial group, however on the farthest end of that age range spectrum. The students were suffering in a state of confusion about their relationships.
This led me to embrace the call as “Atlanta’s Dating Millennial Coach”. It was kind of comical because I had no intention of becoming a dating coach, but I knew that someone had to offer help and hope to those who had given up on relationships. This by far was the best fit for my skills as it offered me an opportunity to speak with college students on a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, relationships, suicide, impostor syndrome and a host of others.
I’ve since been speaking all around the United States about dating and relationships. I want to empower individuals, couples, and families to have healthy relationships. It all starts with the dating process, the foundation of relationships. I help individuals spend less time with the wrong person so they can meet the right one. This all starts with the relationship that we have with ourselves.
I focus on coaching individuals to do the inner work so they can attract healthier relationships. I find when one focuses on doing their work, the law of attraction is in full effect. When we have not dealt with our wounds from previous relationships including familial and intimate we go into future relationships with emotional baggage. It is often in these relationships that the issues come to life.
We must do the work that it takes to heal because a predator is attracted to blood. When we walk around with unhealed wounds or baggage we have a target on us. It is on us to lighten our load and give the wounds air and treatment to heal. This treatment often includes counseling and coaching. This has led me to write a book to share more about the process one can take if they are confused, frustrated, or given up on relationships altogether. This book can also help rejuvenate relationships that have grown apart. The book is “Being the One”. This is from the perspective that we can find the one by being the one. We are clear about the problems and issues with others while ignoring or burying our own issues. We must bring our issues to life so we can become a vibrational match for what we desire and need.
I’ll share my love quote which was etched out of my personal and professional experiences. Definition of happiness from my perspective, when your vibrations radiate together so deeply that you have a greater sense of understanding and appreciation for the value that person has added to your life. By merely existing not requesting anything from them, but honoring their existence in your world. ~Marquita Johnson.
Currently, I am working on my doctoral degree at Walden University in Counselor Education and Supervision.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth ride especially since I am a single parent. I never envisioned myself as an entrepreneur because of my limiting mindset. I knew that embarking on this journey would cost and I wasn’t sure at the onset that I could pay the price. I’ve since embraced this part of the journey. There have been ups, downs, and all around but my mindset has shifted. I am clear about the vision that I have for my family. I want to build a legacy while changing my family tree. I also want to reach back and share my experience with others in hope that they will be inspired. Service to others is the rent you pay for your space here on Earth-Muhammad Ali.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
