Meet Marsell James of James Empire in Smyrna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marsell James.

Marsell, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m 25 years old and I graduated from Mceachern high school in 2012. I immediately enlisted into the US Navy and that’s where my entrepreneurial story begins. I knew to start, I needed capital and after completion of my first deployment in 2014, I had enough to create my umbrella brand “James Empire” which hosts my different streams today.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was an obstacle and the biggest struggles was the lack of knowledge. Being the first one in your peer group to pursue unfamiliar territory, you’re bound to make mistakes and learn from them along the way. Owning a hair salon and barbershop without the ability to fill in if someone can’t come in is a challenge in itself because you rely 100% on your employee.

James Empire – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My overall brand is James Empire which is the mother ship to my hair salon, barbershop and spa called The Haircut shop. We do cut, styles and treatments for the whole family. Another stream under James Empire is the real estate portion where we own properties, renovate and flip properties. Also on the James Empire team is the hedge fund where we generate income by investing and managing. The most important role of James Empire is our nonprofit called James Care, it’s always been important to me to give back. We provide food and clothing for the homeless, mentor the youth and back to school items for the kids. As a company, I’m most proud of the diversity and the ability to expand into new markets. The thing that sets James Empire apart from others is there’s no competition within, we all can win by putting in the effort and teaching each other skills and providing tools to be successful.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far was earning Sailor of the year in 2017, Recruiter Of the Year, Young Person of the year and Entrepreneur of the year in 2018.
