Meet Marsha Middleton of M-Squared Public Relations in Buckhead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marsha Middleton.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After almost seven years as the public relations director at Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta, took a leap of faith and launched M-Squared Public Relations–in the middle of the recession. With all intentions of being an independent practitioner, within months, I had hired my first employee and within the first year, my home-based business was prime for an office location.

To launch the firm, I decided to put a PR focus on the industries I embraced professionally and enjoyed personally. Hotels, restaurants and real estate it was! The company officially launched after capturing my former employer, Four Seasons, as the firm’s first client. That was just the beginning. Within months, I had landed a few restaurants and had friends, journalists and contacts referring endless business my way.

After five years in operation, two office moves and enough employees to throw a company holiday party, M-Squared PR was growing yet again.

Our second office opened in Charlotte, NC and we began servicing several clients, the first being Moffett Restaurant Group, one of the city’s leading restaurant companies.

Today, M-Squared PR services more than 25 clients across the southeast, has two offices and 12 employees.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the challenges have been learning to be multi-faceted. As an entrepreneur, I’ve been the company IT person, HR director, accountant and everything else. By year two, I learned that the best use of my time was to outsource the tasks outside of my expertise.

M-Squared Public Relations is an independent public relations firm specializing in the food/beverage, retail, hotel, hospitality, tourism and luxury industries. M-Squared PR has offices in both Charlotte and Atlanta.

Since its inception in 2008, M-Squared has been recognized as a leader amongst the media, peer agencies and its clients. We produce results-oriented work that is both fresh and strategic. Our innovative initiatives, which garner significant publicity, are recognized in media outlets around the world.

Creativity is our key ingredient. Our ability to truly understand the mission and the target demographic of our clients is what sets us apart.

On a daily basis, we identify and develop relationships with members of the media, including reporters, columnists, editors, bookers and producers, daily newspapers, magazines, consumer publications, business publications, wire news services, Internet, radio and international media that communicate our clients’ story and produce optimum PR results.
