Meet Marvin Luther in Lithonia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marvin Luther.

Marvin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My love for music comes from a place of passion for the creation of innovative, provocative, and ambitious art. This passion comes from the many influences I’ve had during my growth as a musician and songwriter. My goal has always been to push the limits of the stereotypes placed on Black art. I’ve been inspired by revolutionary artists like Prince, Nina Simone, Andre 3000, Erykah Badu, and Frank Ocean, who through their art and their lives challenged the norms that surround Black artistry in the music business.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think the hardest part of being an artist is always trying to challenge yourself to not follow trends. I think in music, many artist fall prey to trying to take the easy way out when it comes to individuality. The most important aspect of artistry to me is being OK with not having the hugest audience if it allows you to stay true to yourself.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with your work– tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I think what sets me apart is that my approach to music is constantly based in quality.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Just to continue to work on my first album and hopefully have it done by 2020.
