Meet Matt Aaron

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Aaron.

Matt, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Before I even started rapping or making beats, I started out in band. After I quit band during my 7th-grade year in 2007, my interest grew more into rapping because some of my friends were doing music and watching them gave me more motivation to try it. It wasn’t until 2009 when I legit made an effort to take it more seriously and start making songs. I literally took old poems that I wrote and found a beat to go with them and I just adjusted the words to make it flow accordingly. I was recording off of a freaking mini Dell Notebook computer man. I didn’t have a mic or the best software, but I made it work as best I could. Looking back on things now, those songs were trash and I have no clue why people liked them, but all the love and encouragement was what made me want to continue because I knew that as time went on, I would get better. As time progressed, so did I, and here I am today.

I released my 1st EP “Somebody From ATL’ June 27, 2019, and it was a body of work I could honestly say I was proud of. Along with the EP, I had a music video done for one of the singles on there “Throw Some $$” which was super fun shooting. Shout out to my guy PK for the dope visual, Molly World Casting for the models, and my boys for coming through with the whips that really help take the video to another level. Since then, I have been focusing more on the production side of music, but I am definitely going to get back to writing and releasing music because I plan on dropping another project this year. I’m just not forcing anything and going to let the creative juices flow naturally as every artist should.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I feel like my journey was not as smooth as I would have liked it to be, but at the same time, I know plenty of people who’ve had more difficult challenges. For me, a lot of people took me as a joke and some people just didn’t believe in what I was trying to do at the time, which is understandable. So instead of having a “go to” person for beats, or studio time, I took it upon myself to invest in what I was trying to do and get everything I needed in order to make music. I was saving part of my allowance to lease beats from soundclick.com and trying to find affordable recording software etc. I watched a whole bunch of YouTube videos to help me along the way to figure out what to buy or how to do certain things because I had no one that I could go to and ask at the time. I went through a lot of trial and error experiences where if I had somebody who knew how to move in the music industry by my side, I could have avoided a lot of screw-ups and saved money.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am an artist & producer from Stone Mountain, GA. I feel like I couldn’t tell you exactly what it is that makes me different because I’m one of those people where you would have to be around me and see for yourself. I could easily tell you what I think I bring to the table that others don’t, but at the same time, you might see something else in me that I don’t see in myself. I like for people to be around me and experience who I am as a person and experience my creativity and my process as an artist/producer. To be honest, we all are one of one and that’s just my personal opinion.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Without God, nothing is possible. Without my family and friends, I wouldn’t have a support system. Without the haters, I wouldn’t have motivation. So, all of the above deserves credit in any success that I have and hopefully continue to have in the future.
