Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Boyd.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Maya. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
About three years ago, my mother had a stroke, and I was forced to move her from New Jersey to Baltimore to live with me. At the time, I was a Baltimore City school teacher and was struggling to provide for a four year old at the time in private school. I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur, and it somehow was embedded in my DNA because my mother owned her beauty salon for about 20+ years. I didn’t know what I wanted to do or where to begin, however, I needed to do something fast because of the responsibility of being a single mother and now being a caretaker, time was of the essence to provide. Having many part time jobs, commercial cleaning seemed to bring in the most income. I researched residential/commercial cleaning, saved for my LLC, and went for it.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. It’s been daunting, stressful, and at times a headache. However, very rewarding because I’m able to provide a service that people need. I’ve struggled with my worth as a business owner and trying to get my business to the next level while working full time and being a single mother. Working full time and moonlighting, I often run into conflicts with my schedule. Many people believe that entrepreneurs make so much money where, in fact, that’s far from the truth. I have business fees, marketing, employees to pay, and supplies to purchase. Often, I’m unable to pay myself because of the overhead in costs that I put out to maintain. I try and schedule all of my cleanings on the weekends where I sacrifice time spent with my daughter/family. Entrepreneurship will cause you to lose sight of the bigger picture if you’re not focused or grounded in your purpose of why you started!

Our mission at Safi Cleaning Services is to provide high-quality services for our valued clients. My team and I go above and beyond to cater to each project and tailor to the individual’s needs and wants. We service and provide cleaning services through-out Baltimore, MD and surrounding areas. We offer fair prices, superior quality, eco-friendly products, and exceptional customer service.
As a business owner, I’m most proud of the risk I took out of “despair” and have been blessed to see my business grow and succeed. I’ve had the support of so many people who aren’t friends or connected to me but see my vision and genuinely want to see me win! They’ve inspired, motivated, and push me daily.
In a market that’s over saturated, what sets me apart is my connection to people and how satisfied my clients express to me is when my team has completed service. It lets me know that they could’ve chosen any other Cleaning service, but they chose me.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
As a child, I grew up watching my mother struggle as a single parent, take her savings and grow her beauty salon from the ground up. My mother worked tirelessly to provide for me while being a business owner. Spending so many hours in the shop alongside my mother at a very young age taught me how to be a business owner and gave me the motivation I needed as I adult to run my own successful business.
